Meet Oberdam Aguiar

We were lucky to catch up with Oberdam Aguiar recently and have shared our conversation below.

Oberdam, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

As someone who is constantly creating, I’m often asked how I maintain a steady flow of ideas and keep my mind conditioned for creativity after almost 18 years. My answer is straightforward: I feed my mind with inspiration from every possible source. Whether it’s a bedtime story with my son, a casual chat with friends, or a business lunch, I seize every opportunity to gather and develop new ideas; I mean, I supplement my mind with ideas. When you practice or teach something, you become an authority on it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

My name is Oberdam Aguiar, but many people simply call me Dam. Proudly married and father to three little guys, I’m originally from Brazil but have called the United States home for over seven years now. I’ve been working as a creative director for more than 17 years, collaborating with large brands across the world. Presently, I’m a partner at Adapt Crew, a full-service marketing agency focusing on immigrant communities. With offices in Philadelphia and Orlando and clients across 14 states, our mission is clear: deliver disruptive, intelligent communication that proves the power of creativity and strategy to take any business to new heights.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Reflecting on my recent career development, I can confidently identify three pivotal areas of improvement: focusing on high-level expertise, enhancing stress management techniques, and refining my decision-making skills. These three aspects have helped me further highlight my strong instincts for leadership, creativity, and managing projects and people.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

I would definitely say my mentors. It’s great to think about this because today I have mentors in various areas of my life, including health, spirituality, business, finance, and counseling. I believe mentors are crucial, and I encourage you to seek out your own.
