Meet Octavio Molina

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Octavio Molina. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Octavio below.

Octavio, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

Well, it’s a practice. I read a lot because it forces me to use my imagination. I also like to be surrounded by design books, art, and photos, sometimes I just sit and flip through the pages of my books or stare at a painting and wander into the space. Music also helps me tremendously, candles and essences.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am a creative designer who specializes in art, interiors, and photography. I trained in abstract art and design at Central St. Martins in London.

My multidisciplinary artistic abilities have allowed me to collaborate with brands such as L’oreal Rag&Bone, and Iris Van Herpen as well as earning a feature in FORBES and a spotlight in People en Español “The most influential Latinos in the us” spearheaded by Jennifer Lopez.

My work has also been featured across multiple media platforms, including
CBS, ABC, Vogue, New York magazine, and BYRDIE.COM.

My mixed media photography project LIGHT | DARKNESS was recently nominated by GRAMMY WINNER SEAL to receive THE LEICA OSKAR BARNACK AWARD.
In the summer of 2021, I collaborated with Grammy winner BECKY G in creating a mural inspired by the Latinx culture of Los Angeles to be exhibited at the launch event of Becky’s makeup brand TRESLUCE. My artwork has been shown during Frieze Week in Los Angeles and New York City.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Perseverance, master the art of social media, it’s a great tool to market yourself and build relationships with influential people.

A great way to build the skill of perseverance is to start with small projects that have some type of challenge, Practicing not giving up at a smaller scale will help you develop the mindset of not stopping until done.

Social media can make someone’s career these days, so investing time and energy in building a following is key. Be authentic and show emotions. People will connect with that over a pretty emotionless picture.

Relationships are key, ask influential people with stronger skills than yours to coffee or lunch and ask questions, get to know them, and stay in touch.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

Creative visualization by Shakti Gawain.

In this book, Shakti teaches how to use the power of imagination to create what you want in your life. It’s a roadmap to manifestation, it is a wonderful book and everyone should read it once or twice at least.
