We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Olga a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Olga, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I get my work ethic from wanting something. I believing if I make step towards that want I will eventually get it.
Sometimes the steps are easy and sometimes the steps are harder, but I just keep practicing and finding the differerent steps until I reach the want or “goal”. I believe the steps are the work ethics towards everything.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As a fashion designer I have focused on creating wedding bridal accessories such as bridal veils, wedding capes, and fashion accessories of all kinds.
I enjoy creating bridal accessories. It is a special item that a person can pass down to another generation. I love the connection. I think because my parents are from Cuba the connections were lost. By creating an heirloom that can easily be transfered to anther person maybe that thread will keep a family together in the love. I ususally embroider the wedding dates in everything I create, thats just another piece of the thread to keep families togehter.
When I create a custom item for a bride who has a story to tell with a special flower or a butterfly that reminds the bride of a grandparent or a special friend it give me goose bumps. They get it! My heart is happy for the family.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
well for me , I had to learn how to sketch to show people what was in my head. then I needed to learn the skills of actually making the designs, such as patternmaking, and sewing. I at leasted needed to learn how a garment is constructed to communicate with team members to make the idea in my head a reality.
If there is something you want. First do the research on the steps you need to take or learn to eventually get the want.
How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
I would spend time dancing sharing moments with family, friends, and travel. I would spend these opportunities to see all the beauty God gave us and enjoy every minute.
