We were lucky to catch up with Olga Polo recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Olga with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I definitely got my work ethic from my parents. They’re both incredibly hardworking people, and growing up, I watched them lead by example. They always taught me that if you want something in life, you have to be willing to put in the effort and earn it. That mindset has really shaped the way I approach everything I do.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a wedding photographer—which basically means I cry at strangers’ first looks and somehow survive 10-hour days without sitting down. And weirdly… I absolutely love it.
I pour my soul (and let’s be honest, most of my weekends) into this work because there’s nothing quite like documenting people who are wildly in love, surrounded by their favorite humans.
My brand leans classic, editorial, and timeless—but with just enough artsy edge to keep things from getting too predictable. Think Vogue-level sophistication meets real, unfiltered emotion. It’s elegance with soul.
Weddings are equal parts beauty, chaos, champagne, and so much fun! Capturing those fleeting, honest, soul-filled moments is my thing. And yes, I’ll absolutely be crying behind the camera… again.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I’d say three things have made the biggest impact on my journey: a deep love for people and strong communication skills, talent, and consistency.
First, being genuinely curious about people—and really seeing them—has shaped how I work. Photography is so much more than just snapping beautiful images; it’s about connection, trust, and creating space where people feel safe to be themselves. Good communication (and maybe a little emotional intelligence) goes a long way, especially in the high-stress, high-emotion world of weddings.
Second, yes—talent matters. A good eye, intuition, and an artistic touch absolutely help. But I also believe talent is just the spark. What you do with it is what matters most.
Which brings me to number three: consistency. Show up, even when it’s hard. Especially when it’s hard. There will be seasons where things click and you’re on fire, and others where it feels like nothing is working. That’s normal. Just keep going. Stay curious, keep learning, and trust that every step is part of building something meaningful.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Honestly? Me. It might sound a little unconventional, but I’ve always been the one to push myself the hardest. I don’t rely on inspiration—I rely on discipline. Every step of the way, I’ve challenged myself with one simple question: Can I do better?
It’s always a quiet battle between who I was yesterday and who I want to be today. I constantly strive to be one step ahead of the person I was the day before, and that mindset has pushed me to grow, refine my skills, and never settle. That’s what keeps me moving forward—especially when things get tough.
