We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Olive Capri. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Olive below.
Olive, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us today. We’re excited to dive into your story and your work, but first let’s start with a broader topic that might be stopping many of our readers from pursuing their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. How have you managed to persist despite haters and nay-sayers that inevitably follow folks who are doing something unique, special or off the beaten path?
Short answer: Alchemy.
Long answer: Persisting through haters and naysayers is like practicing spiritual alchemy. In alchemy, the goal is to transform one thing into another, we can turn negativity and doubt into inner strength and wisdom. Each criticism or setback is transmuted to seeing the lessons within, refining myself, and becoming more resilient.
We have all the power to transform the energy with us! The opinions of others become fuel for my growth, allowing me to elevate my purpose and continue on my path with grace and clarity. So, in the face of doubt, I persist by embracing each challenge as an opportunity to turn lead into gold.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Absolutely! I’m Olive Capri, an international showgirl from Lake Charles, Louisiana, and currently thriving in Atlanta, Ga. My heart and soul are deeply rooted in burlesque, an art form that allows me to express myself with boldness, creativity, and unapologetic confidence. What excites me most about my work is the transformative power of performance. Burlesque isn’t just about the glitz and glam—it’s about telling a story, commanding a space, and empowering others to embrace their authentic selves.
What sets my brand apart is the intentional fusion of classic burlesque, jazz and Louisiana zydeco. I strive to keep the essence of burlesque alive while pushing its boundaries, always bringing a fresh energy to the stage. Whether it’s through dynamic costuming, storytelling, or simply stage presence, I want every performance to be an unforgettable experience for the audience.
Right now, I’m focused on burlesque education, collaboration, and expanding my reach as a producer.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, I’d say the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been resilience, creativity, and a sprinkle of good ol’ Southern charm!
Burlesque (and life) can throw some wild curveballs, and it’s all about how you sashay through them! I’ve faced everything from wardrobe malfunctions to a car accident that temporarily took me off the stage, but I’ve always found a way to bounce back stronger. My advice? Learn to embrace the unexpected! Every challenge is an opportunity to grow, even if you have to shimmy through it with a awkward smile.
Be intentional. Whether it’s designing dazzling costumes or coming up with the dopest glove peel. The best way to hone in on creativity is to try new things, take risks, and don’t be afraid to fail. Write down your ideas, sketch, brainstorm what you have to do, just get it out, and then bring it to life! You never know what magic will happen.
I think my claim to have have been my Southern charm and just being a good person. It’s that warm, inviting energy that makes people feel like they’re in a safe space, no matter where they’re sitting. My advice? Be authentic, be kind, and always leave a little sparkle wherever you go.
For anyone starting their journey, I’d say focus on building your confidence, cultivating your creativity, and staying true to yourself. The journey will have its ups and downs, but as long as you bring your whole, authentic self to the table (or stage!), you’ll shine. Keep at it, and don’t forget to have fun!
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I’m always on the lookout for creative souls to collaborate with. Whether you’re an artist, performer, producer, or even someone with a unique skill or vision, I would be delighted to create through collaboration. I love working with folks who are bold, daring, and ready to push boundaries, especially if you have a flair for the theatrical or a knack for bringing something unexpected to the stage. Burlesque is such a versatile art form, and the more diverse the talent, the more exciting the show!
I’d love to collaborate with folks and entities that align with my brand and mission—especially those involved with Louisiana festivals, jazz festivals, or zydeco festivals! I love a good southern soulful vibe, and it would be a dream to bring burlesque to those celebrations. Plus, I tend to make some of my own costume pieces (even though I’m no professional designer), so I’d absolutely love to partner with fashion brands or fashion designers to help elevate my looks.
And let’s be real, a girl can always use a good glam squad! I’m always in need of killer makeup for my shows, so makeup artists and brands—let’s make some magic happen together!
Also, I’m super excited to collaborate with restaurants or jazz lounges looking to spice up their events with a little burlesque flair. I’ve got a whole crew of talented burlesque friends, and we would love to team up for a fabulous dinner or show experience. If you’re ready to throw a dazzling event in your space, let’s connect and make it unforgettable!
