Meet Olivia Giesler

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Olivia Giesler. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Olivia, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?

My optimism comes from the team of people around me. I have been fortunate to have amazing people who have led, inspired, and guided me. This support shaped my outlook on life and helped me to see that there will always be people nearby who care. Now, with my restaurant team,

I am lucky to be surrounded by great people who let me be a part of their lives.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am the executive chef for The Pearl in Tampa, FL, a Cameron Mitchell Restaurant. I enjoy being surrounded by great people who are pushing themselves to learn and grow each day. We face many challenges during our shifts, and the environment is fast-paced. Between ordering, scheduling, and, in general, operating a restaurant, we are constantly pushed to improve.

The exciting part is when the team and the guests become inspired by the environment that we have built. With a team that is self-reflective and always learning, the guests feed off our positive energy and want to be a part of our amazing culture. The team then feels their great energy and executes incredible shifts. I love to see us find ways to support each other and I appreciate how professional and incredible our team is.

Being able to help guide them through these experiences is truly an honor.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, the three qualities that stand out most are discipline, humility, and a strong belief in myself. The advice I would give is to find a mentor. Find people who believe in you and are willing to help guide you. Put time into yourself. Read and explore new ideas and techniques. Seek out information.

Be honest about what you do not know. You will need to be fully committed to your future and willing to make the sacrifices needed to give you growth experience.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

When I begin to feel overwhelmed, I write a new list. Some items are small daily tasks that are part of my routine. Other items on the list are larger projects. Taking small steps forward helps me to recenter and know that I am moving in a positive direction.
When I have a list written, I don’t have to keep running the task through my mind as a reminder.

I will also ask for help when I need it.
