Meet Olivia Page & Kami Smith

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Olivia Page & Kami Smith. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Olivia Page below.

Hi Olivia & Kami , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

Our work is our worship. We attended a class, hosted by Destiny School of Ministry, called Work is worship in November of 2023. During that class, we were asked to participate in a surrendering of our career tools. Just as in the Bible story of Moses surrendering his staff, which was the tool of his profession. We did the same. Shortly after the completion of the class, the Holy Spirit prompted us with a new desire to combine our career and passion of the beauty industry, with our call to worship through workplace ministry. Within the next four weeks we began to receive confirmation from our pastors, through prayer and encouragement, that this was right where the Lord Jesus Christ wanted us. The process of patiently waiting stretched over the next seven months, as we watched the pieces all fall together. In June of 2024, our patience reached a culmination and the doors began to open. It was go time! We immediately toured an available rental in the town of Celina Ohio. The Lord quickly showed us we were thinking too small. He already had the perfect place for us, located a short block away from what we first had considered. Twenty-six days after the signing of our lease, on August 5, 2024 we opened our doors to ‘PS… Beauty for Ashes Salon and Spa Limited’.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Here at PS Beauty for Ashes, our main focus is reshaping the culture of the beauty industry into the culture of the Kingdom of God through workplace ministry. We do this by attending Christian leadership classes, hosted by Destiny School of Ministry. The Bible tells us that we are known by our fruit; Galatians chapter 5 lists the fruits of the Spirit, and they are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. Our mission is to bear this fruit in, not only our salon, but in all areas of our lives. By doing this, we become the “light of the world” that Jesus speaks of in Matthew chapter 5. The Bible also talks about discipleship; a disciple is a disciplined learner. We desire for all of our team members to be committed to the discipline of learning how to walk as Jesus walked, and show Him to this ever darkening world.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1. Teachability
2. Faith
3. Tenacity

Teachability. A person must be willing to learn, grow, and admit when they have an area of weakness. The Word of God tells us that God resist the proud, but gives grace to the humble. One of the most powerful combinations of attributes a person can bear is teachability with confidence in the skills that they already do possess.

Faith. Believing in what you are working towards, your mission/dream, is essential. We truly do achieve whatever we believe we can. Whatever a person does, they must do it with their whole heart, leaning not only on their understanding, but trusting in the will of the Lord.

Tenacity. In scripture, we are instructed in Hebrews 12:1 to, “Run with endurance the race that is set before us.” When someone steps out towards their dreams, trials and set backs are inevitable. But remaining assured in the midst of the struggles that the Lord has ordered our steps, is vital in finishing well. Grit and tenacity are crucial for fighting off the discouragement that is bound to come.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

The person Who has been the most helpful in every area of our lives, personally and professionally, is Jesus Christ. The bedrock of our business is the principles found in Isaiah chapter 61, verses 1 through 3. This is a scripture that speaks of the Messiah to come, Jesus, but it also applies to all Believers in Jesus Who are called to walk as He walked. The Isaiah 61 Promise: to console, give beauty, joy, and praise, to plant seeds of righteousness, and glorify the Lord.
We lean upon the promises in Scripture, that Jesus is a near and present help in all situations, He is our strength, He is our righteousness, our Overcomer, and that He leads us into all truth. The Word of God is truly the guidebook is a successful and fulfilling life, and the Holy Spirit is the author.
