Hi Olivia, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I discovered my passion through art. I never thought I had what it took to be where I am now, nevertheless doing what I love and turning it into a career. Although I’ve only been doing nails full time for 3 years, I know this is only the beginning of my length full journey as a nail artist. I wouldn’t say our purpose in life is our careers and/or how we make our money, but I can say that loving what you do everyday feeds that notion.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My name is Olivia Sabellico. I am 23 years old and I am a Nail Artist based out of Detroit, Michigan. I specialize in Après Gel-x Extensions, Natural nail care, Airbrush art, and Hand painted gel nail art. For those who don’t know, Gel-x Extensions are taking over the nail industry! Gel-x Extensions are an odorless clear full coverage pre shaped gel tip, saving application & file time! This has allowed nail artists to focus and hone in on artistic elements such as nail art. Allowing us to create in a shorter time frame, appealing to both the client and nail artist! Gel-x extensions promote long wear, lasting up to 4 weeks with little to no lifting or breaking! There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back from when I first began my journey as a nail artist the most impactful areas of knowledge I wish I would have known as a beginner are to focus on the basics. Mastering your prep and application comes first. Before putting all of your focus into nail art and following the trends you must have proper prep of the nail plate & application of your product. Clients will come back to you for many reasons, but the most important is how long the nails last. If you don’t focus on your prep & application it’s likely the nails will not last your client. Lastly, if you are a beginner and don’t know where to start, educate yourself! Reach out to people who inspire you, and take classes to further your knowledge.

I am always looking to partner and collaborate with brands and artists to showcase my talent and creativity. In terms of the potential people I am seeking out- it varies. I am interested in furthering my knowledge as an artist in the nail industry in all areas. I would love to collaborate with fashion labels, and tap into doing editorial work. On the other hand, I would also love to partner with high end nail brands that coincide with the work I produce to promote & feature their products on my socials.
