We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Olivia Simpson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Olivia below.

Olivia, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
As young as age 16 I can remember being a teenage mother. Even back then I was told I would be great! I wondered how I could still be great after this? All I’ve ever heard was getting pregnant at an early age makes all of your dreams impossible, Boy, were they wrong! As I grew as a young woman and new mom I began to think very hard about my future and what our life would be like. I knew I wanted the world for my son and I knew it would not be easy to obtain my dream life.

My baby brother was diagnosed with Asthma in September. One night in October I was called to mothers bedroom where I saw she was holding my baby brother in her arms. She calmly asked me “Do you know CPR? My response was NO, I don’t. I tried what I thought was CPR (blowing in the mouth) I quickly realized my baby brother was in trouble! The EMS were called but it seemed like they took forever to get to us. We loaded my brother in the car and proceeded to the hospital! The EMS driver met us on the way! We jumped out and quickly handed my brother off to them! They worked on him and asked us to meet them at the hospital To make a long story short my baby brother did not make it that night. We buried him October 29, 1999 and I gave birth to my son November 7, 1999!

As time passed I began to think again about what I wanted to do in life. What career choice would I choose. I immediately began to think of my baby brother and not knowing CPR to be able to save him (I know now I could not have saved him even though I wanted too). I decided I would be a nurse and save as many people as possible! I started as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in 2003. I went on to get my Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) degree in 2008. I looked to further my education and obtain my Associates and Bachelors degree in Nursing at Darton State College in 2011-2013. I began to work in Surgical Ortho, Med Surg and Substance Abuse/Rehab.

While working in Substance Abuse/Rehab I was encouraged by many co-workers to continue my education to obtain my Masters Degree. I obtained my Masters Degree in 2018, Nursing Specializing in Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner. Once I obtained my NP license and was certified in 2019 I saw that it was a struggle to find a promising job. I began to explore other options of becoming my own boss/CEO. I started my first business as an entrepreneur with Heart of Mine, LLC, in 2019. With my business I customized key chains, umbrellas, t-shirts, tote bags, tumblers and cups.

In August of 2022 I had the opportunity to become a certified Transformation Life Coach through Yolanda’s Coaching Academy (YCA) out of Valdosta GA. This definitely was a part of Gods Plan for my life because I did not see it coming! I actually won a raffle that I had entered to become a life coach and my name was the last drawn for the winners! I was so excited and immediately began to thank God! Not only could I help teen mothers, I can relate to being a survivor of Domestic Violence and Be able to tell my story to enlighten and help young teens and women around the world.

As a Certified Life Coach I am able to speak with women all over the world and coach/assist them through their life struggles. Through the same academy I was certified in the School of Prophets (Business Prophetics) in September 2022. I began to realize all of my pain was turning into divine purpose. Everything I had endured was not for nothing! I am able to give back in more ways than one I am honored to be able to service my clients worldwide.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three Qualities that I had to have to succeed were Determination, Drive and Faith! With Faith being number one. Without Faith none of my success would have been possible. I believed in my goals, my mission and my dream life.

Three Skills that I had to have were strong communication skills, I had to exhibit patience under stress and be emphatic to others.

Three Skill Areas of Knowledge that I had to have were organizational skills, problem solving skills and Nursing Education with licenses in multiple states.

Some advice that I have for individuals early in the journey would to be patient with yourself. Know and understand who you are and what you stand for. Also, Do not be so hard on yourself for failing. Many times something has to end for new and beautiful things to begin. There was an older woman who told me this and I will never forget it she said “Look before you Leap, Listen before you Speak and Watch the Company You Keep!”

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
I will have to say the most impactful thing my mother instilled into me was to-

“Always Show up As Yourself, No matter what! (Quoted from my mother-Mrs. Mamie Swatts)”

My mother tells me even to this day that “No one can beat me being me.” She lets me know she is very proud of the mother, wife and leader I am today. It warms my heart that she is proud of me.

I am currently writing my first book to be published in the coming months of my life story (From Pain To Purpose)!

I will continue to make her proud that I am her daughter.

Special thanks to My Husband. My Children and My Mother who continue to build me up daily! I am very blessed, grateful and forever thankful for my support system.
