Meet Olivia Taylor

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Olivia Taylor. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Olivia, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

It took some time and LOTS of practice. I started performing in lounges around the DC area, eventually graduating to larger stages. In February 2023, I was flown out to perform in LA for a tour called End the Violence Tour. After that successful show, the stages started getting bigger. In September 2023, I was invited to perform on WUSA 9 Great Day Washington’s DMV Soundcheck. My first national TV performance opened my eyes to how much people really cared for my music and delivery. This opened the door for many more higher profile performances.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am an alternative R&B singer/songwriter. I’ve been singing and acting since I was in elementary school. I’ve always had a passion for all things creative. Most of my high school years were spent in our school’s drama troupe rehearsals and onstage singing with the choir. In my senior year, I auditioned for the Washington Performing Arts Children of the Gospel Choir and was accepted. We performed at many prestigious venues/events such as The National Basilica and the Kennedy Center. In February 2023, I was flown out to LA to perform for the End the Violence Tour, where I shared the stage with Dame Dash’s artist, Nicolette. I was featured on WUSA 9 in September of that year and was asked to perform for 93.9 WKYS’ 2nd Annual Women’s Empowerment Brunch at the Bethesda Theater alongside Bobbi Storm in March of 2024. Afterwards, I was interviewed live on-air by Lady Reddz. My 95.5 WPGC interview with DJ Reddz, was aired on Nov. 16th. I want to song-write for artists and major label companies. My mission is to create an artist-focused label that creates an environment of unity and community between all artists who sign with me.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

My easy-going attitude, teachable mind, and easy-to-adapt mindset all worked together to help me push my music and my skills to their current heights. In the entertainment industry, you will always have to stag on your toes and may have to be ready at a moment’s notice to perform. You can’t shy away from the moment either or you can kiss the opportunities you would have received goodbye. Hard work for only a few minutes of fame is also a huge part of this industry. You must practice and master your craft and how you plan to deliver it onstage. Back in my choral and drama troupe days in high school, I learned this all too well. Many after school rehearsals just to perform for an hour or less and lots of choir rehearsals just to sing 2-3 songs. In the end, its all worth it to hear the applause and see your family/support system cheering you on towards your goals. I would encourage other creatives to always keep an open mind and a friendly attitude towards constructive criticism. Often times, criticism is perceived as an attack on your art, but it isn’t always meant that way. Just keep your head down and keep promoting your craft.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I would LOVE to collaborate with Post Malone, SAINt JHN, and Jhene Aiko. Those three artists really speak to my spirit heavily with their dope lyricism and onstage presence. I’ve been streaming Post Malone’s music since middle school. He could never disappoint me when it comes to his music and delivery on stage. He continuously genre-bends and it always sounds amazing. He crafts his own universe with his sound and thats something I’ll always strive to do with my own discography. SAINt JHN is uber talented. He is the rockstar that I aspire to be. He combines rock and rap perfectly. He pushes the boundaries of rap topics while crafting his own sing-songy way of expressing them. He makes expressing your feelings sound cool, which is something I think lots of male audiences need. Jhene will always hold a special place in my heart. She melodically and effortlessly creates an atmosphere of calm and comfort no matter the topic. Whether she is suffering though crises or singing sweet love songs, the feeling is still the same: ultimate relaxation and immeasurable peace. Post Malone and I could definitely craft an alternative R&B/Rock single. Same with me and SAINt JHN. Me and Jhene would craft the most soulful R&B/Neo-Soul EP out here. I really look forward to meeting and working with all three of these musical geniuses.
