Meet Olivia Welch

We recently connected with Olivia Welch and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Olivia, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

It’s challenging to play an integral role in someone’s biggest day and have it just be another work day for myself.
When that feeling arises I remind myself that I’m not the main character, and I don’t matter nearly as much as the families that I’m serving or the life they are bringing into the world. God already wrote the story, knowing I would play a part, so I can trust I have a purpose. As long as I’m upholding my values, I am exactly the person that family needs.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am a BEST certified doula and childbirth educator. I found myself in this role a few years after my first child was born because I was drawn to the community and beauty of the birth world. I also received my Body Ready Method® Pro certification which helps me address common aches and weakness during pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

I’m a follower of Christ and seek to worship Him in all that I do and I proudly serve any family, believers or not, that thinks I am a good fit for their birth team! My services are similar to other doulas, but they also include prayer, language that glorifies God, and a biblical worldview that shapes how I talk with my clients. I am up to date on the current research and best practices because the numbers always point to God’s perfect design.

I also teach a variety of classes meant to serve the wide array of needs in our community.
I offer private and group 6 week long childbirth classes called Preparing for Birth. This class takes a deep dive into everything you need to know to be prepared and excited to give birth. We talk research and experience, hospital and home birth, medicated and unmedicated, newborn care and self care, truly it explores all of the integral parts of carrying, birthing and caring for a new family member (or members!)
My private classes can be scheduled any time and my next group class series will be happening in November! Perfect for families expecting new arrivals in the beginning of 2026.
Finally you can find me teaching Childbirth Ed Express on the 3rd Saturday of the month at Biggest Little Baby. This class is perfect for second time parents wanting to refresh their memory and for families that have a tight budget and want more than what the free hospital classes have to offer.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I have a heart for new moms. I do my best to be empathetic while not acting like I know exactly what they are going through. The journey is so unique for every new mom. Being able to understand the issues where they may need more support while allowing space for them to decline has made me a really solid partner during the vulnerability of this transition for a new mom and dad.

I started this work having seen exclusively physiologically natural births and I was exposed very early on to very intervention heavy births. Nothing is inherently right or wrong about either side, but my scope of normal was quite wide and it’s helped me support families that have had a range of desires for their birth, and the need to feel like they were in charge of the decision making.

Finally, I have an incredible community cheering me on, watching my kids, cooking dinner, and listening when I have hard days. This community is essential. It is at the core of who I am and how I am able to serve the families I do. I can’t pour from an empty cup, and my people make sure it stays full.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?

I love a family that has started the research. They dipped their toes in the water and want to have someone around to guide them through the rest of the knowledge.
These families come with an open mind and a passion to grow and take control of their birth experience. They consider what I say and then research the relevant aspects. They stay away from instagram and google information and recognize that the content they find online is not reliable.
My role and my passion is to support, educate and serve. So any family that is ready to accept a helping hand, advice drawn from experience, and a back rub in between contractions is my favorite kind of client.
