Meet Olivia

We recently connected with Olivia and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Olivia with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

I’d say my work ethic comes from the strong women in my family who showed me the importance of resilience and independence, but also from my own experiences. I started working at 15, and ever since, I’ve carried the mindset that no matter what the job is big or small there’s always something to learn and take with you. I’ve always believed in giving my best to whatever work I’m faced with, and that approach has shaped how I continue to grow both personally and professionally. Especially with SAYURI I put %100 into every detail to make fragrances that have meaning and the best quality. Each perfume I fall in love with in different ways just like the cities they’re inspired by.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

At SAYURI, every fragrance begins as a memory. I’m Olivia, the founder, and each perfume is inspired by places I’ve traveled and loved, from Hokkaido’s lavender fields to Kochi’s citrus groves, Tokyo’s neon nights, and Miyagi’s onsen towns. Scent is a language that captures culture and feeling in something small enough to carry.
Each solid perfume is handcrafted in small batches with organic oils and authentic attars sourced from Japan, India, and the UAE, then poured into our containers: heart-shaped compacts with mirrors, bamboo-topped frosted glass, and ceramic jars inspired by tea canisters, we’re also working on creating candles that match each fragrance since it’s been something a lot of people have asked for.
This season’s new releases:
Hokkaido Hikari — neroli, bergamot, lavender, orange blossom; amber, tonka, vanilla, white musk.
Kochi no Yume — yuzu, orange blossom; honeysuckle, neroli, sugared petals; white musk, amber, vanilla.
Tokyo Nights — mint, bergamot; lily of the valley, cardamom; mitti attar, vetiver, hinoki, cedarwood.
Miyagi Heat — saffron, incense, ginger, amber.
SAYURI is more than perfume — it’s an invitation to travel through scent and carry a piece of memory with you wherever you go.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Find a way to love the work. It doesn’t mean you have to enjoy every single task, but developing little rituals and meaning around the day-to-day makes everything more sustainable. Put on a playlist for packing nights, make your product photoshoot a mini creative session, or treat admin time like intentional planning rather than punishment. When the small tasks feel like part of your craft — not just chores — the business becomes something you want to show up for every day.
Ask for help. This one changed everything for me. There’s no rule that you must do it all alone. Hire someone for market days, trade skills with another maker, or book an hourly web designer to fix the things that eat your time. Asking for help isn’t a weakness — it’s how you free up energy to do what only you can do: create, connect, and grow the business.
Set clear goals and chunk them down. Big dreams are essential, but the real magic happens when you break them into concrete 90-day projects. Instead of a vague “grow wholesale,” map out the steps: research 10 boutiques, create 20 sample kits, pitch 5 buyers this month. Make each milestone measurable so you can see real progress and adjust if you need to.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I’m always open to connecting and collaborating with people who share a love for craftsmanship, scent, and storytelling. Right now, I’m especially hoping to expand SAYURI’s wholesale presence by partnering with boutiques, wellness studios, and gift shops that appreciate intentional, sensory experiences.
Each perfume in our collection is designed to tell a story, inspired by different cities and cultures, and I love working with shops that value natural products with meaning and artistry behind them.
If you’re a retailer, maker, or creative who feels aligned with that vision, I’d love to hear from you. You can connect with me directly through our website or reach out on Instagram I’m always happy to chat about ways we can bring these fragrances to more people together.
