Meet Olivier Duperval

We recently connected with Olivier Duperval and have shared our conversation below.

Olivier , first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Ha! What a great question… I think everyone deals with imposter syndrome from time to time and it can be an ongoing process to over come it.

For me, it’s come from leaning on Jesus to get me through uncomfortable situations and seasons that I’m in. I know I’m not perfect nor will I ever have it all together but if HE puts me somewhere that I don’t feel ready for, then it’s up to HIM to give me what I need to succeed.

That really takes the pressure off of me to perform and it gives me confidence knowing that He’s going to give me what I need to succeed as I trust Him!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Hey! I’m a hip hop artist and a creative entrepreneur! One of my primary focuses the last couple of years has been my clothing brand, “Fruit Over Phonics” – it’s a Christian lifestyle brand that encourages believers to live out their faith and beliefs and not just talk about it! It’s been exciting seeing the brand grow and hearing the stories of how the brand has impacted our customers!! I’m pretty proud of what we’ve been able to do in such a short time!

Our brand is focused on helping believers share their faith and story by giving them high quality apparel that sparks a conversation and gives them confidence in their calling!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The most importants part of my journey have been : faith, community, and courage !

I began the brand off of faith! In 2017, the Lord gave me the idea for the brand and 4 years later, I started to do something with it lol. I went with what He showed me and I started to see if blossom, now it’s about setting a firm foundation so we can scale the business and have it operate at the most optimal level!

Community, community, community! I diverted a lot of pitfall because of my community pouring into and supporting me. I’ve had mentors who guided me along the way and helped me make god decisions that put me in great positions to be impactful in the clothing space!! I can’t brag enough on the tribe of people that I have in my corner! I’m truly blessed!

Courage: it takes courage to do anything creative! Having our identity firmly rooted in Christ and not our gifts and not in our outcome is a JOURNEY! I haven’t perfected it but I know where I need to get to. It takes courage to step out and do something great and that comes from know who and Who’’s we are!

The best advice I can give anyone who is starting out is to know and be clear on who you are and why you’re doing what you’re doing! Things around you will change constantly but you can’t be moved by what you see. You have to do things for something bigger than yourself!

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
One of the most helpful things that helped me has been discussing my struggles with trusted people like mentors, my therapist and other friends. Not just for creative endeavors but in all areas I have a need. I’ve discovered that someone else has the missing piece to my puzzle and I’m not on an island by myself lol. I need people and people need what I have to offer.

I heard a quote in a Ted Talk that said something like “People need you to succeed”. It’s a double entendre in that people need us to succeed because they need to see that success is possible for them AND people need what we have in order for them to succeed. It all works together, we’re all connected in some way.
