Meet Oluwatosin David Aruna

We recently connected with Oluwatosin David Aruna and have shared our conversation below.

Oluwatosin David, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

I get my work ethic from my Nigerian roots, where hard work, resilience, and creativity are deeply ingrained values. Growing up, I witnessed how dedication and resourcefulness could turn vision into reality, and I carry that spirit into every piece I design.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

My name is Ambassador Oluwatosin David Aruna, and I am the Founder and Creative Director of Teeclothiers Limited, a bespoke tailoring brand that originated in Lagos, Nigeria, and is now also registered in the United Kingdom. Teeclothiers is a multi-award-winning fashion brand recognized internationally for its innovative and elegant designs that celebrate culture and style.

As a proud member of ForbesBLK, I am part of a global community of changemakers who are driving impact and reshaping industries. My journey has been shaped by my Nigerian heritage and further honed by my education at Northumbria University, Newcastle, where I was recently invited to inspire students with my entrepreneurial journey and share my knowledge of the fashion business.

What’s interesting about me is my ability to seamlessly blend African artistry with contemporary designs, creating bespoke pieces that resonate with global audiences. My focus is on crafting timeless designs while promoting African culture on international platforms.

Looking ahead, I plan to expand Teeclothiers’ presence globally, particularly in the UK and US markets, through collaborations, fashion exhibitions, and retail initiatives. I’m also passionate about mentoring young designers and creating opportunities for emerging talents to thrive in the fashion industry. Professionally, I’m committed to pushing boundaries, embracing sustainability, and redefining bespoke tailoring for a modern audience.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been resilience, creativity, and strategic networking. Resilience helped me navigate challenges and stay focused on my goals. Creativity allowed me to stand out by designing unique pieces that resonate globally. Strategic networking opened doors to collaborations and opportunities that elevated my brand.

For those early in their journey, my advice is:

Build resilience by staying consistent and learning from setbacks—they’re part of growth.
Hone your creativity by continuously exploring new ideas and staying inspired by culture and trends.
Invest in relationships—collaborate, seek mentorship, and connect with others in your industry. These foundations will propel your career forward.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?

Over the past 12 months, my biggest area of growth has been in expanding my brand’s international presence and adapting to new markets. Registering Teeclothiers Limited in the UK was a significant milestone, allowing me to cater to a global audience while maintaining the essence of my Nigerian heritage.

I’ve also improved my strategic business approach, focusing on scaling operations, incorporating sustainability, and leveraging technology to enhance client experience. This growth has not only elevated my designs but also strengthened my ability to connect with diverse cultures and meet the demands of a broader clientele.
