We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Omar Dominguez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Omar below.
Omar, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
My purpose comes from my desire to be a successful person, I’ve always wanted to be that, since I was a kid I always admired people with those stories, people that overcame difficulties and grew up setting an example of resciliance, and defeated obstacles; besides that feeling that I always had, I have a daughter with Down Syndrome that fights and sets examples of strenght everyday so I have learned from her so much that I can not be as strong and rescilient as her. I have 6 kids total and I want them to learn from me that we never give up.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m living the life I always wanted, since my childhood I wanted to be a person dedicated to help people, so after 15 years in the food industry I decided to start offering consulting, first doing secret shopping to improve restaurants operations, then social media management, after that I started doing the licensing process for small food procucers looking to put their products in shelves in stores, I felt at that point that this was my call to be able to help people to start and grow their businesses with all my experience and expertise, and make my living from that, today after 7 years of start Spicy Consulting I proudly can say I have helped close to 100 companies to start and grow and it feels sooo good!
Now Spicy Consulting offers consulting services, UDAF licensing, social media management, food truck licensing, staffing, and we have our own delivery platform so our clients can offer delivery services at no cost to them, with this service we help the restauranteurs to have delivery service without the high cost of the national brands, at the end our goal is to grow my clients businesses.
Our mission is 2 simple steps:
Make sure they do great and nothing bad happems to them.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I believe my main skill is I NEVER GIVE UP! Besides Spicy Consulting I own Crown Alfajores and a Coffee shop called The Hive Express, so my work days are long but my main source of energy is INSPIRATION, I know what I want for me and my family plus I know what my clients want so that inspires me to keep going forward regardless of the hours, my third skill I would say is Im always open to learn, this is not only about learning skills, abilities or qualities but also I learn where are the areas of opportunity and growth for me and my clients, and I would add PASSION is another of my strenghts.
I would tell everyone looking to start a business this, focus in something you like so much that you would do it even for free, by that I mean if you dedicate your efforts to something that passionates you, success and money will come, if you chase money first is harder to reach success, and also make sure you know what are your skills and abilities, you will be amazed about how many people doesn’t know what their skill are and what are they passionate about.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
Ideally my client is somebody with a great product looking to license the product to be in the shelves, also a person that has been in the restaurant business and now is searching options to start their own business, like food trucks for example, in most cases they know a very good recipe for their product but they dont understand about other factors involved in owning a business such as payroll, taxes, management, human resources etc, in those cases is where I can help them in those weaknesses they have, to learn how to overcome those challenges.
In the case of restaurants my ideal is looking for options to grow, such as catering, deliveries or when they don’t have their numbers in good shape I come on board to review them and make a plan to fix the problems.
