We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Omar Thomas. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Omar below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Omar with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I’ve been working since age 12. Growing up poor I always had to be resourceful, finding ways to make money. Having a mentality like that made me a goal oriented workaholic.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Currently I’m experimenting alot with AI. Since I know it will be a mainstay in the future, why not find creative ways to “utilize” it as a tool to enhance my work. I’ve been digging deeper into the styles of art that have helped me transform my work over the last few years. I find myself transitioning more from fine art portraits into more modern/abstract portraits. Anyway that I can express emotion and passion yet still produce outcomes that my audience will appreciate is a win for me. In the near future I will be rebranding my website (othomas.art) and logo making room for a cohesive merging of my nonprofit I’m working on. I plan to add more content to my Instagram @othomasart also. I’m very excited for the plans we have for 2024.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The main things I can think of are-
1. Stay busy working on your craft. There is never enough time in one day so make each minute count.
2. Block out the noise. Pay less attention to whose doing what and how they are doing it. Comparing your work to others can be a blessing and a curse.
3. Be willing to learn from just about any resource. Inspiration and lessons are universal, gather as much as you can and put it to action immediately.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Overwhelmed as far as art? I take it one moment at a time. I never get too ahead of myself and maintain realistic goals to accomplish.
