Meet Omari J. Brooks

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Omari J. Brooks. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Omari J. below.

Omari J. , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

I get most of my ethic from my mom. She’s one of the hardest-working people I know. She keeps me occupied in this crazy business known as show-biz. Whether it’s learning multiple scripts a day or having to tape multiple auditions in a day. It’s beyond crazy. But I keep going one foot in front of the other.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m an actor, and I’ve been in this game for 10 years, even though I’m only 15. I started acting in local theater and school, and then I moved into TV and film. But let me tell you, TV and film are a whole different ball game compared to stage acting. I had to learn the ropes of TV and film, and it was a real challenge. But I love being an actor because you get to tell so many stories in just one life. It’s like you’re living multiple lives through your character. And no other profession allows you to connect with the audience like that. The words you say, the movements you make, it all transforms the audience. It’s an incredible feeling!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

When I first started acting, I was quite young, so my first reading experience was quite challenging. I had to learn how to read, but it was also important to understand what was happening in the scene. If I didn’t understand why I was saying the words, my performance wouldn’t be effective and wouldn’t connect with the audience. I also had to work on being grounded, bringing me and the character together to create a strong performance that keeps the audience engaged.

For those early in your career, I would strongly recommend that you continue to train. Acting is like a muscle, and if you stop working it, it will lose its strength. So, keep training and enjoy the process. You never know when you might be auditioning for 200 projects and the next you’ll book a huge role. So, take your time, enjoy the journey, and don’t rush it. Everything will come with faith, favor, and hard work.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?

Taking time for myself is crucial. You might be doing a lot and seeing little to no results. So, stepping back and spending time with my family and loved ones is essential. This industry can be tough, and sometimes you need to take a break and work on yourself. That’s okay! When you take that break, you recharge and can overcome obstacles or book projects you couldn’t before. Sometimes, it’s all about taking time out for yourself to achieve better results.
