We were lucky to catch up with Omavi Waite recently and have shared our conversation below.
Omavi , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
How did I find my purpose? Well, my purpose came to me within the trials I’ve faced and overcame. Along my journey thus far and growing up, I was faced with many health related issues such as a kidney condition and struggling with accepting my autistic diagnoses. Being in hospitals since I was young and just feeling different from those around me of my age group caused me to really go more inward and create my own inner worlds, through visualization in meditation or listening to music to help stimulate the visions. I eventually came to writing as a way of expressing myself and releasing my mind onto paper. Through this art form I realized the idea of self healing through art therapy and started to write more based on what I felt. How this awakened my purpose was by allowing myself to express myself through my art form, helping others discover how they can express themselves, helping them figure out what type of medium they gravitate towards and how can they develop and express it. Being an author of 4 books has really gave me the confidence and skill set to really enhance my ability to write and paint pictures and put the creative energy towards perfecting my craft, as I’ve helped people before hone in on their skill/creative abilities. I realized my teaching abilities by just having deep conversations, and pin-pointing certain aspects of individuals and how they can express those aspects of themselves.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Well, besides just saying writer and poet, I’m also a spoken word artist. Along side my 4 poetry books ( The Symphonic Series ) I also have 2 poetry albums out on iTunes and other digital music platforms. The energy of my art form is very deep, thought-provoking, and will bring people to question themselves and there thoughts. I’ve gravitated towards the way in which I express my art because I love to paint pictures and be very descriptive, using different word choice and pronunciations of words in order to have a profound effect on people. My aim with my art is to allow people to really dive deep within themselves, express themselves and their deep most values, also through accepting myself and my most deep feelings and thoughts, I can encourage others to not be so afraid of themselves and do the same. What my aim is for my art is to be accepted around the world and impact people around the world. I’d love to travel and do many book signings different places and perform spoken word different places. I’d also want to help others create different projects and the construction of them. My message and aim for the world is acceptance of themselves and healing and finding love and purpose through expression.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The 3 most qualities of my journey that I would inquire others to embody is first, resilience, second, focus, and last but not least, patience. First is resilience because without the ability to move forward despite trials, you won’t develop the ability to move forward towards the goals you are aspiring to achieve. The second is focus because one would have to understand that what you put your focus to, is what you will put energy to and build. If you are distracted by other stuff going on in your life, then you will surely impact the amount of time spent on working towards your goals. Lastly is patience because patience is key. You can work on something and it still not be finished in the time you allotted, that means you have to exercise patience because more factors need to be considered before the work can be finished. The more patience you have, the more you can hone in on fine tuning your craft and creation, and then when ready, release it to the world.
How would you describe your ideal client?
An ideal client of mines would be someone who is very well expressive, and likes deep- thought provoking content. They are able to take in and accept the gravity of the work, and understand the underlying message it is giving. Another trait would be that they are well versed in their artistic creativity, and understand the power of written word. They have sat with themselves through the best and worst times and are able to be at peace with themselves through it all. These clients understand and accept that life is all about flow and motion like an ocean wave.
