We recently connected with Omayra Rivera Hoon and have shared our conversation below.
Omayra, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
For a long time, I was moving through life doing what I thought I was supposed to do staying busy, working hard, checking off boxes — but I always felt something was missing. I wanted to feel connected, not just productive.
My turning point came when I took my first yoga class. I remember lying in savasana, realizing for the first time that I had been holding my breath for years — not just physically, but emotionally. Yoga became the doorway to presence, healing, and awareness.
As I deepened my practice and later became a teacher, I discovered that my true purpose is to help others reconnect with themselves — to feel safe, strong, and at peace in their own bodies. Every class I teach reminds me of that moment when I first found stillness.
Now that I have my own studio, Yoga Om, that purpose has grown even deeper. I truly love this space and the community that fills it. Helping others is my call, and being able to share yoga with my community brings me so much joy. The studio has become a place where we can all come together — to move, breathe, laugh, and find peace.
My purpose isn’t something I chase anymore; it’s something I live each day through service, compassion, and authenticity.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I discovered yoga in 2005 and found something precious that changed my life. That discovery led me on a journey to complete my first 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training in Seattle. After a few years of teaching, I felt called to go deeper, which took me all the way to Rishikesh, India, where I immersed myself in an intensive 500-hour teacher training. My journey didn’t stop there — I continued my studies in Vipassana meditation, Traditional Hatha, and Ashtanga Yoga with amazing yogi masters in the heart of India.
I truly love teaching and inspiring students to blossom into their greatest selves — and through that, I’m always learning alongside them.
Yoga Om is more than just a yoga studio — it’s a community space where people come to find peace, balance, and connection. What makes it special is the energy of love and acceptance that fills every corner. From the moment someone walks in, they’re welcomed as part of the family.
What excites me most is being able to share yoga as a path for healing and transformation. I’ve seen so many students grow stronger — not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually. Whether it’s someone stepping onto the mat for the first time or a long-time practitioner deepening their journey, each person brings their own story, and I’m grateful to hold space for that.
Now that I own Yoga Om, my focus is on continuing to grow our offerings for the community — from yoga classes and workshops to wellness experiences like Reiki and infrared sauna sessions. We’ve been expanding our events to include more opportunities for connection, mindfulness, and self-care.
I truly believe that yoga can change lives — it changed mine — and through Yoga Om, I hope to keep creating a place where everyone can come to feel grounded, joyful, and inspired.
“Yoga inspires me to live each moment more mindfully. I’m deeply grateful for the loving wisdom my teachers and masters of yoga have shared with me”

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three Most Important Qualities, Skills, and Areas of Knowledge
Looking back, the three qualities that have been most impactful on my journey are patience, consistency, and compassion — all of which have guided me not only as a teacher but as a member of a growing, loving community.
Patience taught me to trust the process — both in my own practice and in the journey of those around me. Growth doesn’t happen overnight; it unfolds when we allow space for understanding and grace. For anyone starting out, I’d say: be gentle with yourself. Every small step is progress, and every breath is part of your evolution.
Consistency has been the quiet strength behind everything I’ve created. Whether it’s teaching, learning, or nurturing Yoga Om, showing up with intention every day builds a foundation for true transformation. It’s through consistency that trust is formed — within ourselves and within our community.
And most importantly, compassion — for myself, for others, and for the collective energy that connects us all. Compassion is what allows community to grow strong and authentic. It’s what makes Yoga Om more than a studio; it’s a home.
Community is at the heart of everything I do. It’s the reason I teach, the reason I opened the studio, and the reason I continue to learn. When we come together with open hearts, we lift each other up, and that shared energy becomes healing in itself.
For anyone beginning their journey, my advice is simple: practice patience, show up consistently, and nurture compassion — not just for yourself, but for those walking the path beside you. That’s where the true magic of yoga — and life — begins.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
Right now, my biggest challenge is finding balance — balancing all the roles that come with owning Yoga Om while staying connected to my purpose as a teacher. There’s a lot to manage, and sometimes it feels overwhelming.
What helps me is returning to the foundations I teach: mindfulness and community. I lean on the support of my family, my husband, my friends, and this incredible community. They remind me I don’t have to do everything alone.
Yoga has also taught me that growth and peace can coexist. Every day, I focus on why I started — creating a space for healing, joy, and connection — and that purpose guides me through the challenges with gratitude and heart.
