Meet Omkcar Shethe

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Omkcar Shethe. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Omkcar, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I’d always wanted to work in advertising, but I wasn’t sure what role I wanted to pursue. I had tried my hand as an assistant director on ad films and worked on a few art direction projects, but when I was interning at one of the top agencies in 2019, the creative director loved the line I wrote. That moment, I believe I discovered my calling to be a copywriter.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I like to be aware of my surroundings; I suppose being a copywriter has conditioned me to be this way; I am constantly seeking for insights. Insights to keep in mind or make a list of in my phone. I suppose this distinguishes me regardless of the task at hand. I always have a solid insight to back up my idea for a certain brief. Additionally, because I enjoy being informed, I constantly attempt to keep up with the latest developments in technology and innovation, knowing that this information may help a brand create new unique campaigns.

Takeaway from my story: If you want to be a great copywriter, start gathering insights right now!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three qualities that had the greatest impact on my journey were: First, always be willing to learn new things, even if they are from your juniors. You may be senior, but you may only have experience shaping things the way the client wants them, whereas they may have knowledge of what is relevant in the market. This way, you can work together to create a relevant campaign that your client will easily approve. Second, constantly try to ask individuals about new things they’re learning in life. This way, you’ll know what you need to learn to keep on par with others. Third, try to learn a new language, if possible. I currently work in New York, which is a melting pot of cultures; if you want to establish a name for yourself in such a city, you must understand how to present your skills to individuals from all over the globe.

These qualities are simple to learn, and there are numerous resources available to help you obtain them. So go ahead and master them; they will always come in handy regardless of how the job market changes in the future.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I enjoy being proactive, whether it’s for a client, an award, or simply showcasing my talent on social media. I’d love to work with an art director who, like me, has a strong desire to highlight trending events. If you think I’m the right fit for you, please contact me at [email protected]. Let’s work together to produce awesome stuff!
