Hi Opoku, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

Growing up, I often felt like I was living in two worlds: one where everything moved too fast for me to keep up, and another where my thoughts and ideas seemed too vast to express. Navigating life as a neurodivergent person came with challenges, but it also taught me to listen to the rhythms of the world—and ultimately, to create my own.

My purpose began to take shape during my time at Boston Arts Academy, where I majored in Drums & Percussion. Music wasn’t just something I enjoyed; it became my language, my therapy, and my way of connecting with others. Playing drums taught me discipline, focus, and how to stay grounded in the moment. It was a way to process my emotions and channel them into something beautiful and powerful.

Participating in Berklee’s City Music Program expanded my understanding of what music could be. Collaborating with other artists taught me the importance of community, creativity, and the transformative power of shared expression. These experiences showed me that my purpose was not just about playing music—it was about using it as a bridge to bring people together and inspire growth, healing, and understanding.

But finding my purpose wasn’t just about external experiences; it was also deeply personal. Living with ADHD, I had to overcome self-doubt and societal expectations that often made me feel “different.” Instead of letting these labels limit me, I embraced them as superpowers. They allowed me to see the world through a unique lens and approach challenges with resilience and innovation.

As I grew, my purpose evolved. I began integrating my spiritual journey and zodiac insights into my creative work, finding ways to connect with others on a deeper level. Finding my purpose wasn’t a single moment of clarity—it was a rhythm that developed over time. Each beat, each challenge, and each triumph added to the composition of who I am today: a creative, a storyteller, and a connector. My purpose is to inspire others to embrace their unique voices and find their own rhythm in life.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Music has always been the heartbeat of my life. From performing on stage to collaborating with artists, it’s how I express myself and connect with the world. I’ve spent years honing my craft, from graduating with honors from Boston Arts Academy to participating in Berklee’s City Music Program. Each step has deepened my passion and helped me grow as both an artist and a person.

Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to intern with Live Nation, which gave me a behind-the-scenes look at the industry. This experience sharpened my understanding of what it takes to create meaningful musical experiences—not just as a performer, but as someone who can contribute to the larger creative process. It reminded me of why I started this journey in the first place: to share my love of music with others and inspire connection through sound.

Right now, I’m focused on taking my skills to the next level by going back to school to refine my musical talents. I miss performing and playing instruments, and I’m excited to dive back into the world of live music and creativity. At the same time, I’m working on expanding my digital presence, including rolling out a new social media strategy to connect with my audience in fresh, engaging ways.

One of my biggest upcoming projects is launching a beat store where I’ll share original compositions and beats for artists, creators, and anyone looking for unique sounds. This store is more than a platform for selling music—it’s a space where my creativity and love for collaboration can thrive.

Through it all, my goal remains the same: to use music as a tool for storytelling, connection, and growth. Whether I’m performing on stage, producing beats, or sharing insights on social media, I’m excited to keep building a community around the power of music.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, three qualities and skills have been instrumental in shaping my journey: understanding music theory and emotion, mastering sound design, and embracing consistent practice. Each of these has played a unique role in helping me grow as a musician and producer, and I’d love to share how they’ve impacted me—and how others can develop them.

For me, music theory isn’t just about notes and scales; it’s about how they make you feel. Early in my journey, I realized that understanding even a little theory could help me translate emotions into sound. By following what the music made me feel, I was able to create pieces that resonated with both myself and others. My advice? Start small—learn the basics of harmony, melody, and rhythm—but always let your emotions guide you. Music is as much about intuition as it is about knowledge.

Sound design is at the heart of any great production. Understanding how sound is created and shaped has been a game-changer for me. When you know how to manipulate and design sounds, you have the freedom to bring any idea to life. I often practice by recreating my favorite songs, breaking down their elements to understand how they work. Even when my versions aren’t perfect, they teach me something new—and sometimes, I end up preferring my cover! My tip here is to explore your tools, experiment fearlessly, and don’t be afraid to learn through imitation.

Practice truly makes perfect—or at least progress. Consistently recreating songs and experimenting with production techniques has been one of my most valuable learning tools. Even if the results aren’t exactly what I envisioned, every session sharpens my skills. For those just starting out, I’d say: don’t wait for inspiration or perfection. Just start. Each attempt will bring you closer to your goals and unlock unexpected creativity.

By combining these elements—knowledge, emotion, experimentation, and persistence—you can carve out your own path and discover your unique voice in music. Keep exploring, keep creating, and don’t forget to have fun along the way!

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?

The biggest challenge I’m facing right now is navigating my mental health and understanding what it means to be neurodivergent. Discovering this about myself has brought a lot of clarity, but it’s also added new layers to my journey. Some days, it’s hard to get my art out of me, whether because of internal struggles like imposter syndrome or external pressures like comparison to others. While I’ve gained so much confidence in my abilities, I still catch myself questioning whether my work is “good enough” or if I have the visuals to match the quality I want to deliver.

One thing that’s been helping is shifting my mindset. Instead of striving for perfection, I’m learning to embrace authenticity. I’ve started pushing myself to post content as it comes to me, even if it’s not perfectly polished. This shift paid off recently when a TikTok mix I made of FLO’s “Soft” and Kehlani’s “Water” blew up. Seeing the love and support from people who genuinely connected with my art reminded me that I don’t have to be perfect to make an impact.

That experience also showed me that I can build a community of people who appreciate my vision. It’s inspired me to lean into my creativity and experiment more with my own beats. My goal now is to keep creating and sharing without overthinking, trusting that the right audience will resonate with what I have to offer.

For anyone else feeling similarly, my advice is this: focus on letting go of perfectionism and embrace the process. Trust that your creativity will connect with the right people, and don’t let comparison steal the joy of creating.
