We were lucky to catch up with Or Tokaev recently and have shared our conversation below.
Or, thanks for taking the time to share your lessons with our community today. So, let’s jump right in – one of the most essential skills for unlocking our potential is self-discipline. Where does your self-discipline come from?
My self discipline come from ,long hours of training ,I wanted to be a good gymnastics and show good results and be first place,I mad my self being serious and not to give up and keep training even when I lost I push my self back to the top ,my coach and people around me believe in me and didn’t give up on me it teached me how become self discipline ,experiences of success and failure during childhood teach you value of effort and commitment.Having goal to get to Olympic fuels self discipline. When you’re deeply connected to a purpose it becomes easier to become self discipline .Overcoming challenges mental resilience, each time you push through difficulties ,you build a mental framework that enables you to take control of your actions and emotions
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I was born in Russia raised in Israel,I moved to LA in 2006 I did Rhythmic gymnastics from age of 5 till 21 ,I was 7 times Israeli champion and represented Israel in Europe and World Championships,I represent Israel in a Olympics Sydney 2000 and I’m teaching kids for 23 years,My focused is to pass my knowledge to other generation ,make kids healthy and Athletic, teach them valuable lessons and skills that extend far beyond physical education, shaping their future in profound ways.
I give them physical development, strength and flexibility builds a strong resilience body.
Helps them develop good coordination and balance ,helps them master body control, that will help them in other sports and daily life.
Encourages healthy habits, lifelong appreciation for physical activity and wellness.
Mental skills,Discipline and focus.Training routines teach kids the importance of consistency and concentration.
Goal setting,self motivation and perseverance.
Facing challenges, falls, and failure teaching kids how to bounce back stronger and it happened to me after losing one Israeli championship and came back stronger and won 3 championships in a row.
Kids learn how to communicate better with each other.
Build confidence that will stay with them to the rest of their lives ,
Teaching Gymnastics it’s more then just sport ,it’s a tool for holistic development equipping kids with physical, mental and emotional tools they need to thrive in the future.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
One of my qualities it that I lived in 3 different countries and speak 3 different language and learn different cultures and was able to adapt my self to each country,
Second one that I been going to camps to train and I had been teached by different coaches with different methods,so I chose some from each one what ever I liked the most .
Third I been teaching kids from the beginning and I teach them good basics and teaching them not just what to do but the most important how to do things correctly,so they can pass it on
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I’m overwhelmed,I’m trying to take some time off relaxing at home watching tv some shows that I like or some new movies, got to the pool and jacuzzi
