Meet Ornela Rothermel

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ornela Rothermel. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Ornela , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

I credit both of my parents for instilling in me a strong work ethic. They immigrated to the United States with no English, no money, and three children, yet they worked tirelessly every day, taking on any job they could to turn their “American Dream” into reality. They always encouraged us to strive for excellence—if we earned a “B,” their immediate response was, “Why not an A?”

My father constantly reminded us that hard work pays off. He believed that success isn’t about the job you have but about whether it provides the life you want. At just 12 years old, I started working at a pizza shop as a phone girl, babysitter, and dog walker, to earn my own money. My parents always gave me career advice and never allowed me to complain about jobs I had. They pushed me to approach every job as if I owned the place, teaching me the value of responsibility, resilience, and determination.

As an adult, I apply the wisdom and skills my parents instilled in me to build and grow our own businesses. By the age of 30, I had become a self-made millionaire through our home health and hospice company—an achievement few can claim at such a young age. The journey was far from easy. It required countless hours of work, sleepless nights filled with doubt, imposter syndrome, and the fear of failure. But through resilience, perseverance, and years of hard work, we pushed through and emerged stronger on the other side.

I always remind myself—if my parents could succeed with no English, no money, and children to care for, then I have no excuse. With the resources and opportunities available to me, success is not just a possibility; it’s a responsibility.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

For over a decade, my sister and I owned and operated a home health and hospice company, growing it into one of the largest agencies in the area. Through this journey, we gained a deep understanding of aging—how it happens, why some age more gracefully than others, and the critical role that wellness plays in the process. Inspired by what we learned, we shifted our focus to preventative health and holistic healing, leading us to create Five Elements Medical Spa & Wellness Center.

At Five Elements, we embrace a mind, body, and soul approach to wellness. We’ve come to understand that self-care isn’t just a luxury—it’s a necessity that profoundly impacts how we age and heal. That’s why we designed an oasis of beauty and wellness, offering everything from massages and facials to a full range of rejuvenating amenities, including a sauna, steam room, hydrotherapy Jacuzzi, cold plunge, and Himalayan salt lounge.

Beyond traditional spa treatments, we also offer holistic services such as functional medicine, Reiki healing, chakra balancing, and sound bowl therapy, ensuring a well-rounded approach to inner and outer well-being. We stand behind every service we provide because we believe in the power of healing from within and reconnecting with nature.

This is the heart of Five Elements—where beauty, wellness, and self-care come together to create lasting transformation.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back on my journey as a professional, I believe the three most essential qualities for success in any business are: believing in yourself, pushing through hardships, and being open to help from others. No one achieves success alone, and the willingness to accept guidance and support can make all the difference.

There will be moments of self-doubt, days when giving up feels easier than pushing forward. But those are the moments that define you—the times when you must dig deep, find your inner strength, and keep going. Obstacles will arise, but rather than letting them defeat you, focus on finding a way around them. Every challenge is an opportunity for growth.

Above all, perseverance is key. More often than not, when you’re at your breaking point, feeling like you have nothing left to give—that’s when everything starts falling into place. Stay the course, trust the process, and success will follow.
