Meet Oscar Delgado

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Oscar Delgado. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Oscar below.

Oscar, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

This is an interesting question. I don’t necessarily feel that we find our purpose, but more that we find passion. Passion is a strong belief in something, and for me that passion happens to be with Draft Tech. That belief in educating anyone that would kindly give me their time. The belief in making it necessary to present a perfect product. Our industry (The Beverage Industry) is not a level playing field. In our industry the math is incredibly backwards! It is very hard for an independent to succeed, and we literally pour our blood, sweat, and tears…into the beers that we make. Inherently beer is already a perfect product once it is kegged and canned. A sterile, perfect, living product created for our enjoyment. When it leaves the brewery and goes to retail it sometimes ends up in locations that are unfit to sell beer…just another commodity to be sold and make money. Nevermind the consumer and their hard earned dollar. Beer is just a drink. The thing is…beer is more than a drink. Beer is life, it’s a living thing, and it deserves respect. Some people choose to respect, and some just don’t, and that is what creates the experience. It is my passion, my purpose of you will to change things in this industry and make sure that everyone develops a healthy respect for a craft as old as civilization.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

-Listen, always listen to what others in your trade have to share with you. It might not work for you, but you might be able to find a different way, a better way, or a sound way. If you just listen.
-Respect yourself in your field, don’t sell yourself short. You can be kind, and help others, but never lose your self respect. Walk tall, and respect yourself, and your peers in the industry, people will know who you are.
-Always have an open mind for everything. You may be good in your field, but you will never be a master. Constantly strive to be a master in your field. Let others call you a master, always remain a student. Learn, learn, learn

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

My community, my network. I don’t claim to know all the answers. Through respect, and hard work. I have been able to develop an amazing network of peers that help me grow and become better at my trade. This in turn keeps the flame burning inside me. A lighthouse cannot function without keepers and our network is what allows us to continuously be beacons of our industry.
