We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful P. Falasha Harrison. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with P. Falasha below.

P. Falasha , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

Let me take you on a journey through my life, a story woven with resilience and strength. My name is Falasha, and my path has been anything but easy, but it’s shaped me into the woman I am today.

I was born in Boston, Massachusetts, to a teenage mom and a barely 19-year-old dad, both from Jamaica, living in the USA. From the very start, I came into this world under challenging circumstances. My maternal grandmother, a woman of incredible determination, worked three jobs to own her first of many homes. She had sacrificed so much to bring her children to this country, all three of them by her side—no one left behind. And now, here I came, another child to care for in the country she had worked so hard to get to.

Despite her efforts, my journey took a different turn. I was sent to Jamaica to live with my paternal grandparents, who were considered “well off” by many. There, I attended some of the best schools the island had to offer. While this might sound like a dream to some, the reality was much more complicated. I was the only one sent away, separated from my parents while my siblings stayed with them. Imagine the confusion, the heartache of knowing you’re not living with your mother or father, while your siblings are growing up together. Even as a child, I couldn’t escape the awareness of being different, and it cast a shadow over my childhood.

When I returned to America as a teenager, it wasn’t the homecoming I had imagined. The parents I had idolized from a distance turned out to be nothing like the figures I had constructed in my mind. The summers I spent visiting them were mere glimpses, never revealing the full picture. But now, living with them day in and day out, the truth was laid bare. The people I thought I knew were strangers, and that realization was devastating. It shattered the image I had held onto for so long.

Then, at just 15 years old, life threw me another curveball—I was pregnant. As if that wasn’t enough, just two days after discovering the news, my child’s father was imprisoned for two and a half years. I was barely more than a child myself, yet I had to figure out how to navigate this new, daunting reality alone.

But the challenges didn’t stop there. When I was 38, I found myself homeless in New York, a city that wasn’t my own. On my birthday, I walked into a shelter, determined to create a plan. I decided that once my daughter’s school year ended in June—eight long months away—we would return to Jamaica. But sometimes, life has other plans in store.

Not long after, I landed a job at the corporate office of John Varvatos, a prestigious luxury brand. I was hired on the spot, on the very day I interviewed. No one knew my secret—that I was living in a shelter. Despite my circumstances, I was promoted to VIP Client Manager, overseeing a team of five, all while still returning to that shelter each night.

Christmas that year was a low point. I hadn’t received my paycheck yet and had no money to buy my daughter a gift. The pain of feeling like a failure was overwhelming. I was heartbroken, embarrassed, and ashamed. How could I, who once lived in a four-bedroom townhouse, drove an SUV, and traveled whenever I pleased, now not afford a Christmas gift for my child? But my daughter, in her innocence, was happy with her friends and the gifts she received, blissfully unaware of my struggle.

Then, in June, just as planned, I received a letter approving me for housing. At that moment, I made a choice—a choice to trust God and follow the plan that had been laid on my heart. I packed up my daughter, my faith, and my dreams, and I haven’t looked back since.

What came next was nothing short of remarkable. I built a makeup distribution company, creating a solid and reputable brand without even meaning to. I didn’t do it out of ambition or desire for recognition. I did it by showing up, trusting God, and doing the work.

To me, resilience isn’t just a word—it’s a way of life. It’s that internal drive that keeps you getting back up, even when the world knocks you down. It’s the refusal to quit, to never settle for “what if.” I know that if I don’t keep going, if I don’t keep trying, I’ll never know what’s possible. And for me, that’s simply not an option.

After coming so close to death—spending time in a coma in 2005—and hitting rock bottom when I was homeless in 2015, I know what it’s like to be at my lowest. But now, I’m on a mission to discover what it’s like to be at my highest, with God as my source, not man.

This is my story, a story of resilience, of strength, and of unwavering faith. And I’m just getting started.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Faith in God
Knowing how to use my resources and network to build what I need ( knowing how to make a dollar out of fifteen cents)
Introspection and Emotional Intelligence; learning to read the room and not being shy knowing how to advocate for yourself in a way that is inclusive of others and not just yourself.

Always being mindful that everyone in the room is in the room for a reason, learn what that is and if you can help them get there do it and if you know someone who can make the connection.
