Meet Paige Marquez

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Paige Marquez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Paige below.

Paige, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?

Being the only one out of all my friends that does social media it can be hard to measure your success. Social media is a field of work that grows and changes daily. There is not right or wrong way to do it contrary to popular belief around the “strategies” people post online. It’s all about you, your success is about you, your personality. You figure out what works based on trial and error, nothing you post is guaranteed to do well no matter how much (or how little) work you put into it. Some of my most viral videos are ones I did when I was rushing. You measure your success against yourself because there isn’t anyone else in the room, no matter how big the field is.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

What I do for a living is described as sharing my life and ideas on the internet. I am so passionate about being unfiltered as I believe if the world was there would be way less judgement. Creating, building and having he online community that I have is the most exciting part of my job and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Obviously there is a negative side to that being hateful comments and I get a lot of questions on how I handle it. All I can say is that it truly doesn’t bother me much, there are so many good things about it that it’s hard to dwell.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I think the most important quality is true authenticity which, in my mind, doesn’t only mean being honestly yourself but about not holding back at all. In addition to that, I studied journalism in college where I focused on lifestyle writing. After I graduated and couldn’t find a job, I took matters into my own hands and started a podcast called Diaries Of A 20-Something. All of my writing skills, pivoted to a different medium and I actually enjoy it a lot more, it feels more authentic, more like me. Also, in journalism I learned so much about social media and my account really started growing more recently (since college) when I applied that knowledge.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I am always looking for guests to have featured on my podcast! It’s all about being a girl in your 20’s figuring things out. I discuss career, relationships, friendships and everything in between.
