Meet Paloma Dueñas

We recently connected with Paloma Dueñas and have shared our conversation below.

Paloma , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
My purpose came through someone in my hometown who was sharing his experience in one of the most famous and renowned Music schools: Berklee College of Music. When I found out there was a career in MUSIC THERAPY, it sparked the energy to consider becoming a musician at the age of18 and set the goal to make it over there, which took a few years. I was born and raised in Mexico city and back in the 90’s there was not a easy way to record myself or create a professional music project digitally, like young people enjoy today. It was a real hassle to get everything ready at a professional level and gather enough resources to get to Berklee. I finished the four year career in two and a half and moved to Miami in 2001 to finish my Music Therapy residency working with Alzheimer’s patients. The purpose developed through the years, with a consistent message in my head calling for ‘THE KIDS”. I had no idea who or where those kids were, but we eventually found each other and I became an Autism and Sensory Integration Disorder Specialist. Since then, through all these years, I have served hundreds of children with and without disabilities in the music and art education.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
In Music School, the creative juices where constantly flowing, so I also picked up the first 35mm camera and started drawing. Starting a parallel visual arts career that will later flourish into Photography By Paloma and later transitioned into what PalomARTStore is today. In 2010, I got incorporated as PalomARTS, Inc. creating this one place where all my creative outlets joined. The music therapy practice, the teaching artist, the vocalist and recording artist, the photographer and visual artist: all the arts Im involved in and create. This allowed me to take more professional opportunities and expand my services into a more wholistic art practice, inclusive and creative services for both young and old audiences.
I am a visionary artist, always creating and expanding in the use of arts and music as a therapeutic way of self expression and innovating in the use of music as medicine. I have a mailing list where everything gets shared and always sharing in social media, art, events, collaborations, etc

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Resilient Creative
Resourceful
Taking the time and effort to know yourself and developing a good sense of self AND intuition is the best thing you can start with so your guide is focused.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My clients have been children with all capacities. Through teaching and working with them, I discovered alternative ways to do things including looking for innovative and creative add on to their music therapy treatment, which then lead me to learn Acutonics. ( Sound vibration therapy ) Currently, my clients are young and old, they are open minded and curious about the exploration of how music can be medicine. Mindful and open hearted clients are the ones allow this modality to do the work through for their wellness, relaxation and over all musical enjoyment. But ultimately music is for everybody so ideally anybody who wants to explore sound.
