Meet Pamela Anthony

We were lucky to catch up with Pamela Anthony recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Pamela, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

Growing up as a little girl I witnessed the long hours my mother graciously gave to provide for our family. I was the last of four children born later in her years therefore it was her mission to stay young to ensure that we had food on the table and a well balanced childhood. In my eyes she was a servant to all who came in contact with her on a daily basis, whether she was tired and exhausted from a day’s work she still found time to give of her music; gardening OR a home cooked meal.

Throughout my adult life she showed up with a helping hand working alongside of me in the greenhouses; flower field and shop. Her encouragement kept me focused; her strength made me stronger knowing that I had her genes to fall back on- I just had to put forth the effort.

My mother passed in August of 2013, two months short of being 81… still today her legacy lives on here at the farm through the work ethic I witnessed all my life.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Welcome to Beehind Thyme Farm & Garden- a place where heirloom flowers, gentle soil and a love for all things whimsical come together in harmony.

I’m Pamela Anthony the hands and heart behind the farm here in Kentucky. What started as a simple of love of gardening has flourished into a flower farm rooted in sustainable, chemical-free practices and old fashioned appreciation for beauty that’s real.

Every seed I plant carries a story-often passed down through generations. Each bloom is nurtured with care, using heirloom varieties that honor both the soil and the bees that make it all possible. My floral designs are inspired by nature’s untamed elegance, sometimes even foraged.

Beehind Thyme Farm & Garden is more than a farm; it’s a reminder to slow down, savor each season and find the joy in simple things that bloom in their own time. My mother Vina B was the greatest inspiration behind what grows today!

My business is rooted in love for nature and nostalgia. I’m the founder, grower and floral designer of Beehind Thyme Farm & Garden. I am a Kentucky flower farm that specializes in growing from heirloom seeds; using sustainable practices and cultivating each stem without the use of any chemicals. A self-taught floral designer I honor the whimsical design using foraged material as a part of my finished design.

I love bringing old fashioned charm into any and all floral work that I offer- including drying a large portion of my grown crop.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Patience and perseverance- As I look back over the years I see that most of my knowledge was gained through hours spent in hand with my precious momma. She was a gardener from the start… using all the old ways of growing. Watching my mother nurture each plant showed me that true success comes from the pure passion for gardening.

Knowledge and hands-on- You have to understand soil health, a rich foundation is the success of your garden. Amending the soil with natural amendments such as compost OR a fish/seaweed blend will ensure years of harvesting a bountiful crop.

Vision- You have to have a vision of what you want your garden to look like; to create a design and make a plan.

Out of all these pieces of information, always consider the gardening zone that you’re residing in, this will alter the timing of sowing; planting and harvesting.

My best advice would be… to not easily give up, we all do things differently and just because it worked for one doesn’t mean it will work for another. Always consider the conditions; foundation and gardening zone!

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?

The number one challenge I’m currently facing in my career is the intense labor that my flower farm requires of me. Years of physical labor can take a toll on one’s body and as I’m now in my mid-fifties it’s quite challenging somedays to put in 10-12 hours. JUST this year I’ve started to shift my focus toward writing/teaching the old ways of gardening that I know true and effective. Also, I’ve delegated certain duties to a hired hand… lending trust to another party has been hard, but rewarding.
