Meet Pamela Pulido

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Pamela Pulido a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Pamela , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

I think I developed resilience during my childhood. My parents got divorced when I was little and from that experience, I think I developed this ability to adapt, to be independent, flexible and endure challenges. Nowadays I think that resilience comes from the love to life that I have.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I was born in Mexico City, a vibrant chaotic and awesome city. Mexico gave me the love to food, people, cultures and arts.

When I graduated from Psychology in 2005 I decided that I wanted to combine Arts and Healing. I was working during the day giving Art and Energy healing workshops, therapy sessions and building community, then at night I used to perform as an artist singing in different venues. After that, I got an opportunity to sing in the US as a latin singer in a Pop 40´s band, so I decided to take it! IT was great to perform in a different country and also being able to combine it with my coaching sessions LIFE was GREAT at that time.

A few years later, love knocked at my door. I started dating a Peruvian- American guy and we ended up living together in Germany, because of a job offer he got at that time.

We didn´t get married but we really wanted to be together and explore the possibility of living together and know each other better. It was not easy at all. Leaving my whole life behind, family, firends, jobs, and even the ability to communicate with others, becuase I didn´t know any german when I moved to Germany.

Living in Europe changed me! I would say in a good way. We traveled a lot, we built community there, and I was able to connect with other artists and sing again, I did theater and also healing work in that small town called Hannover.

But one day, after 10 years, I realized the time in Europe was over, I was tired, I felt that I didn´t belong there , I didn´t want to start a family so far away from my home town and I felt the call to move back to Mexico city. It was a tough desicion but it was for the best.

A year later, my boyfriend told me he got an opportunity to work in Portland, Oregon. Again the call for change was knocking at my door. I decided to visit Portland to see If I liked it and I LOVED IT. Portland is a green, friendly beautiful city. So here I am, living in Portland, Oregon with a 4 year old kid named Kye and offering my skills and love to this city.

I work for nonprofits giving workshops, coaching and accompaniment. I continue doing my own music, sharing my lyrics with other artists and creating beautiful sounds together. I give private sessions online and in person, I facilitate shamanic experiences and healing through meditation and energy work.
I think that I found my place here in Portland. I don´t know where the future will take me. But I feel that I´m in the right place at the right moment, with the right people.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The areas that were most impactfull in my journey where my language skills, creative thinking and the love to connect with people.

Through healing and the arts I´ve opened a complete new world for me and for others. I still receive thank you letters and messages from people that felt impacted by the work I did in my sessions or with my songs.

I would say to people early in their journey : please don´t give up! even though life can be tough at times, there´s always a way out, a new sun, a new chapter, a new you waiting to be discovered.

Bring your emotions to life and practice art, self care and minfulness. Community always give the space to connect and heal too.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

The Artist Way, from Julia Cameron saved my life. During times of change and separation I found in this book the answers I was seeking. And this book inspired me to create a self help workshop called CREARTE, finding ways to heal and express yourself through ART:
