Meet Paola Camila

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Paola Camila a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Paola, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

I developed my confidence and self esteem by making the decision to turn my life around when I was at a low point 3 years ago. I was depressed, overweight, and I had an eating disorder. The moment I told myself, “if it’s not getting better, it’s getting worse,” was the moment I realized I had to change because I couldn’t bear the thought of possibly feeling worse than I already did. So I learned all the information I could about health and fitness through books, podcasts, and youtube videos. Consuming this content was a part of my daily morning routine. This is what enabled me to start changing the way I looked at health and fitness. Instead of seeing it as a chore, I saw it as a gift. I started visualizing my highest self and started making decisions as her rather than who I was at the time. I started loving myself, and therefore, I wanted to take better care of myself to live a long happy and healthy life. I started weight lifting in the gym, started eating better food, and working towards my goals. Overcoming this challenge has enabled me to learn the act of discipline and self love. I feel so proud of myself for making the decision to turn my life around and sticking to it, and that is what gives me confidence- keeping the promises I make to myself and building trust within myself.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I feel so grateful I get to share something special every day with people to inspire and motivate them to be better than they were. I love creating content sharing positive affirmations, fitness motivation, and life advice. I am currently working on resources for my audience to have a step by step guide and easy ways to improve their lives whether that’s with affirmations or by working towards their fitness goals. On the other hand, I am working behind the scenes to manifest my greatest dream- to become a successful singer songwriter. This is something I have always dreamed of since I was a child and I have finally gained the courage to give it a real shot. I wish I could share more details but there is a very real possibility you might see me singing on TV soon (fingers crossed).

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Learning to become aware of my thoughts has become the most valuable skill and asset in my life. It’s what has allowed me to completely transform my life from living in Salt Lake City being depressed, overweight, and unhappy with my career to living in my dream city, New York City, in peak shape and health, so happy, and working as an influencer creating inspiring and uplifting content. The best advice I could give is to take back the power to your life and choose differently. Surrender your old life and make an active decision to transform your life. Stop blaming external factors, stop victimizing yourself, and take responsibility for your own life. Your life is the result of your own actions and beliefs. Want to change your life? Change the way you think and that starts with becoming more aware of your own thought patterns and beliefs.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

No matter how much we grow, we are still human, and we still get overwhelmed. We cannot stop this from happening but we can choose how we handle it. When I feel overwhelmed I literally have a pep talk with myself out loud. I will talk to myself like I’m talking to a loved one and I am real yet empathetic with myself. The trick is to stop the negative thinking pattern as soon as possible and this really helps me with that. Then, I write out everything that is overwhelming me (usually tasks I need to complete) and I prioritize the list of tasks. I schedule them into my calendar based on the urgency of the task and I end up feeling much better and less overwhelmed. Another amazing tool has been meditation. Meditation is also a great way to stop negative thinking. It feels like a shower for my mind, and I come out of it feeling calm and refreshed.
