Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Parker Wright. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Parker, thank you so much for making time for us. We’ve always admired your ability to take risks and so maybe we can kick things off with a discussion around how you developed your ability to take and bear risk?
Central to my willingness to take risks is the acknowledgment that every decision, whether in life or business, carries inherent risks. NOT making a choice, is a choice. NOT taking that leap of faith is a leap in and of itself. Whether it’s choosing to stay with a company or pursuing new opportunities, there’s always level of uncertainty involved. Jim Carrey’s famous quote resonates deeply with me: ‘You can fail at what you don’t want, so you might as well take a chance on doing what you love.’
I meticulously evaluate the potential outcomes of each decision, weighing the pros and cons to ensure that I’m making informed choices. While I strive to push boundaries and explore new opportunities, I prioritize safeguarding both my personal well-being and the success of my business by thinking through all of the possible outcomes and deciding if it’s worth it. I firmly believe in taking calculated risks—ones where the potential benefits outweigh the potential drawbacks.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Throughout my life, I’ve been deeply entrenched in the world of performance, dedicating over a decade to honing my craft in various capacities. From traveling the globe to appearing in commercials, singing live, and mastering multiple roles including music direction, videography, photography, video editing, and music mixing, I’ve embraced a diverse array of roles within the entertainment industry.
However, my journey revealed a recurring issue: a lack of respect and fair treatment for performers within many companies I encountered. Recognizing the need for change, I founded PHNX WING Entertainment. Our mission is simple yet powerful: to create a platform where performers are valued, supported, and empowered to thrive.
At PHNX WING, we offer a diverse range of entertainment options, from captivating staged shows to immersive atmospheric performances. Our commitment to excellence is unwavering, as we prioritize quality and professionalism in every aspect of our work. Whether it’s contemporary vocal groups, jazz bands, or holiday characters, we’re dedicated to providing top-tier entertainment that elevates any event.
I take immense pride in the quality of our offerings, the talented individuals who collaborate with us, and the loyalty of our returning clients. Together, we’re shaping an entertainment experience that exceeds expectations and leaves a lasting impression.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey, three key qualities stand out as pivotal to my success: organization, people skills, and resilience.
Organization: Efficient organization has been crucial for managing tasks and projects effectively. The Story of the Two Woodcutters resonated with me early on in my career, and I found that taking the time to “sharpen my axe” through organization has saved me an immense amount of time as we continue to grow. Keeping organized is the ONLY way to expand your company, as a messy company is very difficult to clean up later. Early focus on adopting tools and systems for organization is key.
People Skills: Building strong relationships and effective communication are vital, but recognizing wants and needs within an industry is what has helped me to negotiate, keep employees happy, and anticipate changes in the market. I have invested in improving interpersonal skills like active listening and empathy from the outset.
Resilience: The ability to bounce back from setbacks is essential. Ups and Downs WILL happen, so getting back up when life knocks you down is the very important. Embrace failures as opportunities for growth and maintain a positive mindset to persevere through challenges. Our name, PHNX WING Entertainment stems from the spirit of “rising from the ashes”.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
We are always open to collaboration opportunities! One of our key focuses is partnering with booking agents to extend our reach beyond our current network.
