We were lucky to catch up with Patrecia Moore recently and have shared our conversation below.
Patrecia, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I believe resilience is in my DNA. Being a Black woman from the South, especially from a small rural North Carolina town, where opportunities were scarce, I had to embody resilience at a young age. There were few job opportunities, so I had to accept the options or strive for more. I made a conscious decision to strive for more, become a change maker, to show others that no matter where you come from, anything is possible.
For me, resilience it about pushing forward, breaking barriers, and creating paths for other to follow. This comes from hard work, taking the time to learn your craft and/or trade, determination, and a vision that you can overcome any obstacle.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Professionally, I am focused on visual storytelling as a writer, director and producer. I feel it’s important that stories are brought to life from varying perspectives and it’s important for me to get projects made that give voices to the overlooked and underserved communities around the world.
My current project is titled, The Power of the Drum, a feature documentary that explores the mystical world of the African-rooted drum and its incredible power to heal, communicate, transform and bring people together.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Purposeful goal setting has been a key part of my journey, as this gives me both guidance and focus in life.
And, the saying “knowledge is power” is a real thing. I have found that the more I know, the more options I have as I navigate life.
Being flexible is also important because life’s circumstances may change, but staying the course is important.
I advise others to set goals, learn as much as possible and remain flexible because life happens.
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
Currently my biggest challenge is navigating the funding side of filmmaking because no matter how amazing an idea, script or a project may be, it takes funding to bring it to the masses in an impactful way.
So, I am taking this challenge head on, and moving forward with setting goals and learning as much as I can about means and options to get projects successfully made.
