Meet Patricia Franklin

We were lucky to catch up with Patricia Franklin recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Patricia , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

I have been blessed with being surrounded by women who were the ‘mover and shakers’ in every arena in which they lived. I watched my grandmother beat every odd that came her way. She fought through several health battles, found a deep rooted love in God, and showed me what it truly meant to ‘Walk by Faith and Not by Sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7). I saw my Great-Aunt Barbara revel in her God given talents of singing, leading a classroom full of third-graders, balancing her social life, loving her family and always ending her night with an episode of Jeopardy. My Great-Aunt Pam fascinated me with her never-ended athleticism, by running the beach early in the morning, walking her dogs in the evening, finding joy in helping others and never missing a beat. These women who I fondly call my ‘concrete maternal figures’ surely are the epitome of resilience. Their blood runs through my veins and I am able to maintain what they left me. Which is a love of God, deeply rooted in my family, boldness, love, tenacity, and lastly resilience.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Franklin Freelance Writing Consulting was founded and created to provide writing support for students who had trouble finding the courage to write. I wanted to create a platform where my clients would have access to positive and supportive messages, realistic stories, and creating a ‘safe space’ of , “I have been in your shoes and I understand you”. I want my clients to know that no project is to hard to understand and with the right
support and partnership anything is possible! I meet people where they are and I am willing to support in my capacity. I can relate to any student, I have had writing anxiety, I have been the student who had writers block, I have been the student who did not know who to reach out too. Being able to relate to my clients is immensely important to me and shows I empathy and understanding. I change my prices on a monthly basis so that anyone can afford them.

Most recently, I have expanded Franklin Freelance into a Business Consulting sector. I wanted to broaden my horizons and expand my knowledge and expertise. I have also become an author of my debut book called, “Sis, You Need Some Rest” – A Mental Health Guidance Book For the Hearts of the Household. This book embodies my personal journey and experience of being a wife/mother/woman and the Heart of my Household. This book was created to inspire women to know that they aren’t alone, they are seen, heard and understood. Ultimately, we all need rest and can do so by creating healthy habits to support our mental health and well-being.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

As an entrepreneur, I will surely say that organization and balance are surely traits that are crucial in being successful. I am fair and decline projects if I feel that
I am unable to complete it in the time given or if the client wants more than what I offer. An ethical partnership is where both parties understand each other and have a comprehensive understanding of what the ultimate goal is. Maintaining organization on a weekly basis ensures that I am catering to each clients needs. I treat every project with care and communicate with each client throughout the process. I want all of my clients to feel valued and to know that their projects are being well taken care of. Balancing is also key to taking on a plethora of projects. On a weekly basis I may have upward of 10-14 projects. I have a monthly whiteboard and a weekly whiteboard to ensure that I do not miss a beat with any of my projects. I would surely advise that you find what works for you and to stick with it. That is the only way that you can be successful in your own right!

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

When I am feeling overwhelmed or there are a combustion of feelings, the first thing I do is take a step back. I love nature and surely love exploring. I take walks on a daily basis to support not just my mental health but to also support my creativity. The advice I would always provide is to take a beat. Taking on a plethora of projects or ideas all at once can surely be daunting. Writing is a form of art that has to be handled with care. Every project is unique and I like to spend quality time with it. Every Sunday, I look over my projects for the week and prioritize them by deadline. Every Monday, I reach out to each client and provide them with a synopsis of our week together. By doing this I maintain trust, organization and open communication.
