Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Patricia Ortiz. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Patricia with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I’ve always had a deep drive to excel — to show up fully and give my best in whatever I’m doing. From a young age, I understood that if I wanted something done well, I had to put in the time and effort. That meant practicing, being open to feedback, and staying consistent, because there’s always room to grow and more to learn. But that mindset didn’t come out of nowhere — it was shaped by the people I grew up around.
My work ethic comes from watching the hardworking people in my life lead by example. Everyone around me carried a sense of responsibility, handling things with determination no matter what obstacles came their way. That rubbed off on me early. It wasn’t always easy. I remember being younger and seeing friends with fewer responsibilities having more freedom, more fun — and while I knew there was value in enjoying the moment, I also understood that the sacrifices I was making would pay off in the long run.
My dad used to say, “El que ríe último, ríe mejor” — whoever laughs last, laughs best. He meant that I could stay focused in my youth, work hard, and set myself up for something meaningful and lasting, or I could burn out chasing short-term fun and end up struggling later. That really stayed with me. So I pushed myself — in school, sports, work — not because I had to, but because I knew I was capable of more. That belief still fuels me today with Glitz and Glam. Every board I create is rooted in that same commitment to excellence, growth, and intention.
Starting this business wasn’t just about creating beautiful boards — it was about building something intentional, from the ground up. Every detail, from the design to the delivery, reflects the same care and consistency I’ve always poured into everything I do. Being an entrepreneur means being your own engine, your own motivator, and that’s exactly where my work ethic shines.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Glitz and Glam By P is a small, Latina- and women-owned business that’s bringing something fresh, fun, and beautifully intentional to the scene. Every board we create is rooted in creativity, care, and a genuine love for making people feel celebrated. Whether it’s an intimate gathering or a big milestone, I get excited about every single project — because for me, this isn’t just food, it’s art.
Food has always meant more to me than just a meal. It’s an experience. It’s how we come together — to share stories, cultures, memories, and love. I’ve always believed that food should be celebrated, not just served. And now, with Glitz and Glam, I get to create something beautiful that sparks joy, connection, and conversation. That’s what makes this work so special.
I want people to feel like they deserve luxury — to know that beauty isn’t reserved for a select few. It’s something we all deserve to enjoy. That’s at the heart of what I do: creating boards that are both elegant and inviting, designed to be savored and shared.
Right now, we’re really excited about launching our website, which will make it easier for clients to explore our offerings and get inspired. We absolutely love hearing from our customers — your feedback fuels us! And we’re especially thrilled about an upcoming pop-up market at the Pérez Art Museum Miami and the Frost Museum on May 10. It’s an amazing opportunity to bring a bit of our Glitz and Glam magic to a wider audience, and we can’t wait to connect with new faces.
There’s so much more ahead, and we’re looking forward to growing, expanding, and continuing to bring a little sparkle to people’s lives — one board at a time.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Honestly, believing in yourself is one of the most important things you can have. I’ve failed plenty of times — but instead of letting it swallow me, I’ve learned to embrace those moments and grow from them. At one point, my biggest dream was to open law firms all over the world. While my path has shifted, the core has stayed the same: I’ve always wanted to build something of my own, to be my own boss, and to grow a personal brand rooted in authenticity.
Three qualities that have made a huge impact on my journey are determination, grace, and a willingness to keep growing. Determination has kept me moving even when things got tough. Grace has taught me to be kind to myself when things didn’t go as planned — because they often don’t. We’re quick to worry about what others think, but at the end of the day, the most important opinion is your own. And staying open to growth has been essential — there’s always something new to learn, no matter how far you’ve come.
For those just starting out, my advice is this: get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Step into rooms where people know more than you do. Don’t let that intimidate you — let it inspire you. Ask questions, ask for advice, absorb everything you can. Everyone starts somewhere, and everyone was once the “new” person in the room. The more you stay open to learning and evolving, the more prepared you’ll be to build something that truly reflects your vision.
And trust me — I’m still learning too. That part never stops, and that’s what makes the journey beautiful.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
My biggest area of growth this past year has definitely been my mental health. I’ve made a conscious effort to work through the parts of myself that so many of us silently struggle with — imposter syndrome, guilt, grief, and self-doubt. I’ve come to understand that taking care of your mind and soul isn’t optional — it’s necessary, especially when you’re making a bold move like starting a business.
Through that work, I’ve become a better version of myself. I’ve learned to honor where I’m at while still pushing forward, and to meet myself with kindness instead of criticism. That mindset shift has changed everything — not just for me personally, but in how I show up for my business and for others. Kindness is something I lead with, always. Whether I’m building Glitz and Glam or navigating life, I try to be intentional about how I move through the world, and that starts from within.
