We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Patrick Powers. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Patrick below.
Hi Patrick, thank you so much for joining us today. There are so many topics we could discuss, but perhaps one of the most relevant is empathy because it’s at the core of great leadership and so we’d love to hear about how you developed your empathy?
I grew up in a rough area. Fortunately, it is not that way anymore. When it was, I was surrounded by people who were filled with hate and malice. Day after day you would experience or encounter something horrible. Parents abusing their children, racists acting out physically or verbally. There was a terrible separation that was growing among lots of people in the neighborhood.
This anger spread to the children and they too were acting on their parents ideologies. I was the victim of these on more than one occasion. Not only for my skin color and heritage, but also because I became a diabetic at age 12. I have had four separate attempts on my life. Knives had been pulled, I’ve been jumped, strangled, guns pulled on me, as well as having a Molotov thrown at me in the middle of the forest.
You learn to see deeper into these actions. Not all of them were horrible people. Some, NOT THE RACISTS, were good people in a rough environment and that was their way of staying out of the crosshairs. Their actions were, often times, a reflection of their home life. Without a way to release their stress, they began to push those emotions onto those around them.
I began to feel for everyone, knowing what I had about certain individuals. Not all scars can be seen on the body. I got close to a few of my attackers and surprisingly enough, we became friends. This was after many years of breaking the tension, friends introducing me to their friends and so on.
The most of it all came from when I began helping others doing CNA/PCA work for them. Being paid scraps so they can keep living their lives uninterrupted. Over time you make strong bonds with people and it no longer becomes about the money or acknowledgement, it was about compassion and empathy.
I would see people nearing the end, and I was able to put smiles on their faces. Yes, it was always hard losing them. But, I became their friend at the end. I can’t help but wonder if the kids I grew up with up with, had someone there for them when they needed it, would they have held so much hate in their hearts still?
Be a good person, embrace empathy! It’s the only way to make the world as bright as we had once seen it. That’s about all I can say without gruesome detail.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am the author of (Here, There or Possibly Elsewhere) a psychological trip into madness. I also have two other books waiting to come out as well. One is a collection of short stories and the other is a collection of entries from my personal journals of the weird, ghostly and macabre adventures I have been on.
I play the character Drew Hart in the movie Hellsgate (preproduction) created and directed by Aaron Hawkins. The movie is about a Cult and you can find all the info about it at Indiegogo.com.
Recently my fiancé Chanel, Aaron and my good friend Matt, have teamed up to create a Paranormal Investigative Team. Our name is called H.L.P. Paranormal. We had just completed an overnight investigation at an active Masonic Temple in West Chicago, IL.
It was a live stream turned into a documentary. Junction Lodge Episode 1 debuts October 12th on my YouTube channel -LINKSKEE.
As far as we know, and were told, we may be the first team to investigate a Masonic Temple that is STILL active, in Illinois history!
If you like urban exploration, history and ghost investigations be sure to check us out.
While all of our other projects are filling out, we are looking for more places to investigate.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Attention to details, especially the minor ones. They can be a literal life saver! It will also help you fill in blank areas of stories you are trying to get out into the world. Making your world, that much more rich in quality.
Dedication is key to anything and everything you want to accomplish! Don’t give up and find a way to keep yourself inspired. Remember, you might be the only one able to produce the vision you see, correctly. Take things slow until you feel the fire ignite inside you.
Learn to read people. Faces give away so much without doing much movement. It will help with writing characters, plot development and again it’s a great way to keep yourself safe around unknown individuals. Often times people share similar qualities so if you’re questioning someone’s morals and see them doing an act that had been seen in someone who had harmed others or yourself, take that as a sign. Then again I’m not a psychologist and I only speak from my experiences.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Always looking for like minded people to work with. Especially those who are open to Paranormal Investigations and know how to conduct themselves in a professional manner.
Writers and authors I am always open to chat with, maybe collab on a story or film. I have extensive experience with writing, filming, acting, music and much more.
Just reach out to me and let’s see what we can create together. Message me at one of the options below.
