Meet Patrick Shatter

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Patrick Shatter . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Patrick below.

Patrick , so great to have you with us and thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with the community. So, let’s jump into something that stops so many people from going after their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. We’d love to hear about how you dealt with that and persisted on your path.
– [ ] When you’re focused on your goals and dreams you don’t really have a lot of time or energy to think about the negativity. Sure every once in a while someone will go out of their way to say something negative toward you but what I’ve noticed is if I’m not seeking it out I tend to not even notice it. It’s important to remember you will never hear negative comments from people that are doing something with their life. Sometimes people get judgmental over your life decisions if it differs from theirs but in my opinion that’s a them problem not a you problem. As long as you’re pursuing what makes me happy and it’s not harming anyone else I see no issue with it and at the end of the day it’s your life not theirs. The best piece of advice I can give anyone is to start surrounding yourself with likeminded people. Maybe it’s time to change your environment or friend group if it’s no longer serving you.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
When I was a kid my parents got my my first guitar. I would spend countless hours in my room playing and listening to music. My childhood dream was to be a rockstar. As I got into my teens and early I started playing in different bands and performing all over so cal. I got into fitness when I was 18 and that’s when I discovered my love for peanut butter. I found out through my research that nut butters were a very nutrient dense and protein pack snack. There’s 66-77 grams of protein per a jar and only 3-4 grams of sugar per serving! I would use the nut butters to fuel my workouts and help keep me on track to meet my nutritional requirements for my training. Over time I started to experiment with my own formulas, textures and flavors. I found that a blend of peanuts cashews and coconut make for a great texture and taste!

Rockstar in a jar is what this special blend is called. I started to incorporate elements from my music days into the nut butters. When you come to one of our events we provide a vip rockstar experience for our customers. We pair our nut butters with an audio and visual experience like a concert. It’s more than just nut butter it’s and experience!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The fact that you’re starting off your journey is already a good sign. It’s not easy to break out of the mold and try something different and new. With that said I believe the 3 important skills that have made a big difference for me are discipline, patience and learning how to learn.

Discipline is important because that’s the tool that’s going to keep you going when things get difficult and I promise you that you will come across many difficult times when you don’t want to show up. That’s one reason why I think fitness is so important because it teaches you this skill well. You not only build physical strength but you build mental strength as well. It’s the strong mind that will take you far in life. I do believe that you can get use to anything if you do it enough and discipline will help you get there.

Patience is a very important skill on your journey. If you spend time on social media you think everyone but you is living the life you want. You’ll be in a constant comparison on why you’re not progressing as fast as other and wonder to yourself how they can do it effortlessly with speed and you’re over here struggling to get started. It’s important to remember you’re on your own timeline it doesn’t matter how slowly or quickly anyone else is doing anything. I’m my opinion good things take time so allow yourself to just enjoy the ride, the ups and the downs without being in a big rush to get anywhere. As you progress in your journey you’ll learn like many of us that the things you want might change over time. A lot of us are in a big rush to the finish line so we can say we made it. To me it’s better to just enjoy the ride and if you’re working towards something you really care about it doesn’t matter how long it take.

It’s important that you figure out how you learn best. There’s many different ways you can educate yourself. To me it doesn’t matter which one you choose as long as you choose one. Take the time to try different ways until you find ones that you like and you can stick with. You will quickly find out as you get started that you’re lacking a ton of knowledge. Because I was such a bad student growing up I thought I wasn’t good at learning and I didn’t like it. It wasn’t until I discovered the way that I like to learn that everything began to click for me and I actually look forward to regularly educating myself about different topics.

We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?
While I don’t think you should neglect anything I do think your effort is best spent on strengths. In order to have mastery of anything it takes a long time, years and years of dedicated practice at something. In my opinion if it’s something you like doing your effort towards it will be more effective and you’re going to spend more time on it. Being well rounded is something that is pushed on you in school and it’s done to make you a good employee but at the end of the day you’ll just be average at everything instead of great at something. I believe that the people that are truly successful fill in their weaknesses through their teams. It’s almost impossible to be good at everything and if you’re starting off you’ll know this because likely you’re trying to do everything. I think sometimes less is more
