We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Patty Myasia. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Patty below.
Patty , thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us today. We’re excited to dive into your story and your work, but first let’s start with a broader topic that might be stopping many of our readers from pursuing their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. How have you managed to persist despite haters and nay-sayers that inevitably follow folks who are doing something unique, special or off the beaten path?
No voice will ever be louder than the voice of God, in my ears. That’s where my persistence comes from, knowing that I’m called according to his purpose, so who really cares what anybody has to say?
When it comes to haters and nay-sayers, the older I get, the more I realize it’s not really *me* people have a problem with, but the God in me. The God in me, makes the demon in others—tremble. So I don’t take outside chatter too personal these days. It doesn’t matter how much people lie, envy, attempt to throw dirt on my name, stalk, etc—my name will forever remain stainless, because I’m Gods child. My life will forever be prosperous.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My brand is Piece by PMR, a brand dedicated solely to the culture. I offer handbags, apparel and recently had an expansion into home decor + accessories, under Haus of PMR.
I just want to hand the flowers back to black culture, through the arts.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The 3 most important things that were impactful on my journey: keep God first, never forget your “why” and always maintain integrity. I offer those 3 things to anybody that’s dream chasing, as well.
• Never make a move without God. If you can’t take him into the room, you don’t need to enter—either.
• Never forget your “why”—the thing that’s driving you to wake up every day, and work hard
• Always maintain integrity, no amount of success is worth losing your morals or sacrificing your soul.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When I’m overwhelmed, I always take a break and tap into self-care. Moving while overwhelmed can cause burn-outs, burn-outs can powerstorm into creative block, and then you’re stuck and stagnant. So, whenever I feel overwhelmed, I listen to my
body and don’t push myself past my limits. Self care is essential. Never overwork yourself. The next day will come, the task can wait.
