We recently connected with Pau Aguirre and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Pau, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I developed my confidence after years of having insecurities and failures. I think after you get into your 30’s you kind of let all those insecurities go. I learned to accept myself, and jumped on opportunities that could improve my life. It’s all about staying positive and creating “purpose” for yourself. Throughout my 20’s, I didn’t feel like I had any purpose- even though I loved painting and creating art- I didn’t really have any direction I was going. I knew I wanted to serve people and inspire others in some way. I found that at Pauhaus. The fact I bring happiness to a community of Artists is literally everything to me. It gives me a reason to work hard and grow this business so I can help others find joy in sharing their art. Life is so short and we really need to focus on the things that matter. Plus, what helps me gain confidence is that even the best of the best get insecure. The best comics, the best artists, the best musicians- they all get insecure. Once you learn that, the confidence comes along naturally and it’s easier to let go of that weight of not feeling good enough. You are good enough!
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I run a creative community on Melrose called Pauhaus. It’s a place where Artists, Comedians, and Musicians can work on their craft with Open Mics and Figure Drawing workshops. We put on music, comedy, and art shows regularly; connecting with locals and shedding light on their talents. It’s become the Mecca for Hollywood’s creative scene! When I first started this place, I didn’t realize how important community was. Now I see first hand how beautiful and rewarding it is to bring good people together.
Our weekly events include:
Mondays- Open Mic Music @ 8pm
Tuesdays- Figure Drawing @ 7pm
Thursdays- Figure Drawing @ 7pm
Sundays- Figure Drawing @ 11am & Open Mic Comedy @ 9pm

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
My 3 skills would be 1. Negotiation- I know how to make a deal. I’m a natural born Saleswoman. That has definitely helped me at times where I wouldn’t have my business today if I didn’t make the right moves.
2. Saying No- If I don’t like something, I say no. If I don’t want something, I say no. I speak up. Bosses speak up because we know what’s best for our company.
3. Hustler Mentality- When you run your own business there is no clocking in or clocking out. I’m always clocked in. You either want the best for your company or you’re going to be lazy and you will fail. I’m not letting my business fail. Not after all the time and investments that I’ve put in. Failure isn’t an option to me. I’ve created a tangible business out of nothing, and I now see now how necessary it is for Artists.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
Who Moved My Cheese by Spencer Johnson
I loved that book because it simply taught me when a problem comes up, find a solution. You can sit on a problem and worry or stress, but your business will fail if you don’t take action. Shit will always happen when you least expect it to, so be ready and trust yourself to make important decisions!
