Meet Paul Askew

We recently connected with Paul Askew and have shared our conversation below.

Paul , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Growing up I saw my mother and father push through so much. They struggled but they did it with a smile and tried to help others in the process. So I was taught by example how to be resilient.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

About King Paul

I’m a owner of record label PPMG and owner of a management firm called PaulPaul Music Management

I have my clothing line, King Paul Collection

I’m the King of Love, as I am licensed to officiate weddings

I appeared on American Idol

I am a Uber driver because I love connecting with people and it is a great way for people to hear my music. I have a new single that has released called
“Because of You” it’s the lead single for The Book of Paul: King Paul Version, that was released August 1st. This comes after a very successful showing of my single “Save Me,” which reached #1 on the Billboard Internet Radio Gospel chart and was nominated for 5 Gospel Music Choice Awards. “Save Me” appears on The Book of Paul which was considered for nomination for the 65th Annual Grammy Awards.

I have been candid about my struggles with mental health and addiction, but this new album is about emerging in victory. God, family, friends, and fans were the inspiration behind this album. I wanted everyone to know what I have been through, what God has bought me out of, and that no one is perfect we all make mistakes however get back up and try again. Never give up on yourself. This album/book touches on everything also having different genres of music on one album. I did this to show all aspects of myself and to be able to have something for everyone on my project.

After deep therapy with my Mom’s best friend and my godmother MaryAnn Drayton. I decided to expound more with Tameca Murray Founder of Chreslove. Chreslove is a company that helps get your life back on track. With daily healing and deeply rooted work. Helping bring self awareness of your situations and life goals and choices. It’s so spiritual and life changing. These exercises she has had us do is mind blowing and healing.  During my work in progress she is actually on the journey with me to help me share my journey with the world. We are writing The Book Of Paul. This book is giving the reader my life’s ups and downs.  While working with Ms. Murray on this project she has helped put my mind further at peace. The reader will go through the stages of healing with me, while learning what I’m healing from. So now I’m telling my story in song, book, and on a screen soon.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The love of God, The Love for myself, and the love of people has made my journey the most impactful. My advice is to never give up on God, yourself, and the people who loves you. Try to be transparent and honest with yourself. Doing that between you god and family you will figure it out.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful things my mother did was to teach me life lessons to help me through this life. She taught me to always be kind to people. You never know who needs your kind words and how it will impact their day. That’s the job God has given all of us. She also taught me to be slow to take offense but always ready to reconcile. I live my life with these lessons.
