We were lucky to catch up with Pavel Hambardzumyan recently and have shared our conversation below.
Pavel, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
Keeping my creativity alive is a continuous journey rooted in curiosity and openness to the world around me. For me, creativity isn’t just a spontaneous spark but a practice that requires patience, reflection, and a willingness to explore new perspectives.
A big part of maintaining my creative energy comes from deeply engaging with both tradition and innovation. I often revisit the techniques of the old masters, which taught me the discipline and precision needed to bring ideas to life. At the same time, I remain inspired by contemporary artists and everyday moments, which push me to reinterpret those classical approaches with fresh eyes.
Another essential source of creative vitality is the evolution of my recurring motifs — especially the coffee bean. What started as a simple, familiar image gradually became a symbol rich with meaning and abstraction. This ongoing transformation challenges me to see familiar things differently and encourages me to push boundaries in my work.
I also find that stepping away from the canvas periodically — whether through travel, reading, or quiet contemplation — helps reset my mind and invites new ideas to emerge organically. Surrounding myself with a supportive community of artists and mentors adds another layer of inspiration and motivation.
Ultimately, creativity is a living process. It requires nurturing, vulnerability, and the courage to experiment without fear of failure. By embracing this mindset, I can keep my artistic voice evolving and vibrant.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am Pavel Hambardzumyan, an oil painter deeply inspired by the dialogue between tradition and modernity. My work is a continuous exploration of classical painting techniques blended with contemporary minimalism and symbolism. One of the unique aspects of my art is the recurring motif of coffee beans, which started as simple still life elements but evolved into powerful symbols of connection, transformation, and hidden meanings.
What excites me most about my creative process is this ongoing evolution — how familiar objects can open new stories and emotional layers through abstraction and thoughtful composition. I aim to create paintings that invite viewers to engage personally, discovering their own interpretations rather than prescribing a single message.
Professionally, I focus on expanding my international presence through online platforms like Singulart, reaching collectors and art lovers worldwide. My personal website, pavel.am, serves as a hub for showcasing my portfolio, news updates, and direct contact with collectors and collaborators.
In addition to my artistic career, I collaborate with various companies outside the art world. These partnerships allow me to broaden the impact of my work and explore new creative opportunities beyond traditional galleries.
Recently, I signed a contract with a gallery in Spain, which marks an exciting step in exhibiting my work in physical spaces and connecting with new audiences. Currently, I am developing a new series that moves beyond the coffee theme and that continue my interest in subtle emotions and minimalist aesthetics.
My artistic brand is about balance — between detail and simplicity, past and present, personal story and universal themes. I hope my work brings moments of contemplation and quiet beauty into people’s lives.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back on my artistic journey, three qualities and skills stand out as the most impactful for my growth and success:
1. Patience and Discipline
Mastering classical oil painting techniques requires a great deal of patience and consistent practice. Developing this discipline not only helped me refine my technical skills but also taught me to respect the process of creation — understanding that meaningful work often takes time to evolve. For those starting out, I advise embracing patience as a core value. Progress might feel slow at times, but persistence builds a solid foundation for lasting artistic growth.
2. Openness to Learning and Experimentation
While I began deeply rooted in traditional methods, I remained open to exploring new ideas, materials, and styles. This willingness to experiment allowed me to develop a unique voice that balances tradition with modernity. For emerging artists, I encourage staying curious and not fearing mistakes. Every experiment, even those that don’t turn out as expected, is an opportunity to learn and expand your creative horizons.
3. Developing a Personal Visual Language
Creating a recognizable and meaningful artistic identity — like my ongoing exploration of the coffee bean motif — was crucial in connecting with audiences on a deeper level. Finding your own symbols or themes that resonate personally will help your work stand out and invite viewers into your world. My advice here is to reflect on what inspires you most and let that guide your creative narrative over time.
Ultimately, these qualities intertwine: patience supports experimentation, which in turn enriches your personal language. For anyone early in their journey, focusing on cultivating these areas with intention and humility will open many doors — both creatively and professionally.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Yes, I am always open to meaningful partnerships and collaborations that can enrich my artistic practice and expand the reach of my work. I believe that creativity thrives through connection, and working with others often opens new perspectives and opportunities that might not emerge in isolation.
I am particularly interested in collaborating with professionals and organizations in several areas:
Interior designers and architects who seek unique artworks that harmonize with modern living and working spaces, helping to create environments that inspire and comfort.
Creative agencies and brands looking to incorporate fine art into their visual storytelling or product design, where art can add depth and emotional resonance.
Fellow artists and multidisciplinary creators for joint projects, exhibitions, or experimental work that pushes boundaries and blends different mediums or ideas.
Art platforms and galleries that share my vision of balancing tradition and innovation, offering audiences thoughtful, minimalist, and symbolic art.
