We were lucky to catch up with Payal Bansal recently and have shared our conversation below.
Payal, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
My confidence was built over time, shaped by my journey from India to building a luxury design brand in the U.S. Growing up, I was taught the value of hard work and resilience, and that foundation carried me through every stage of my life. Studying for my MBA strengthened my strategic thinking, communication, and leadership skills—qualities that continue to support my work today.
But the real growth happened when I moved into interior design. Starting a business in a new country pushed me far outside my comfort zone. I learned to trust my creativity, embrace challenges, and believe in the value I bring to my clients. Every project, every client interaction, and every milestone helped me build not just a business, but a deep sense of self-assurance.
Today, my confidence comes from experience, consistency, and knowing that I’ve carved my own path with passion, integrity, and a relentless drive to grow.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am the founder of Payal Bansal Design, a luxury interior design studio specializing in high-end residential and commercial projects across the U.S. My work focuses on creating timeless, modern spaces that are as functional as they are beautiful. What excites me most is translating my clients’ lifestyles and stories into thoughtful, highly personalized designs.
What sets my brand apart is our attention to detail, creative problem-solving, and commitment to designing spaces that support long-term, comfortable living—including aging-in-place solutions.
We’re currently expanding with new projects in multiple states, along with exploring custom rug and furniture design. We also recently launched our new website, showcasing our growing portfolio.
At its core, my mission is simple: to create meaningful, elevated spaces that enhance how people live every day.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three Most Important Qualities, Skills, and Areas of Knowledge
Looking back, the three qualities that shaped my journey the most are:
1. Confidence in my vision
Believing in my design perspective and staying true to my aesthetic helped me create a clear brand identity. For those starting out, trust your instincts and allow your style to evolve naturally. Confidence grows through practice and consistency.
2. Strong communication and client relationships
Interior design is deeply personal, and listening with intention is just as important as creating beautiful spaces. I’ve learned that clear communication builds trust and leads to better outcomes. My advice: focus on understanding your clients’ needs and learn how to articulate your ideas with clarity and empathy.
3. Business and strategic thinking
My MBA background has been invaluable—from managing operations to budgeting, contracts, and scaling the business. Creativity thrives when supported by strong systems. For beginners, invest time in learning the business side of your field. It doesn’t have to happen all at once—start with the basics, be organized, and seek guidance when needed.
For anyone early in their journey: stay curious, be patient with yourself, and commit to continuous growth. Every project, challenge, and experience builds the foundation for long-term success.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Yes, I’m always open to collaborating with individuals and businesses who share a passion for quality, creativity, and elevated design. I especially enjoy partnering with custom home builders, architects, luxury real estate developers, and artisans who value thoughtful craftsmanship and innovative solutions.
I also collaborate with rug manufacturers, furniture makers, and specialty vendors who can help bring bespoke pieces to life—from custom rugs to tailor-made furnishings that reflect my clients’ unique lifestyles.
If you’re reading this and believe our values and vision align, I would love to connect. You can reach me through my website or Instagram or email me directly to explore potential collaboration opportunities.
