Meet Pete Mancini

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Pete Mancini. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Pete below.

Pete , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

From my mom. She is the strongest person I know. She achieved so much when our family was going through hard times and that will always be an inspiration to me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am a songwriter who has released three albums and about to release a fourth. If you count my former band it will be my sixth record. Life as a songwriter isn’t always easy but it has been incredibly rewarding, especially when I look back on all the people I have met. When I am not playing my own gigs I am working as an assistant/tour manager to legendary songwriter Jimmy Webb, which has been an interesting part of the journey, to say the least. Occasionally I get to open for him which has been great.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I think being inquisitive, determined and open minded are three qualities that can help any songwriter. In the beginning I had a lot of questions: how do chords work together? Why do I like this song more than this other song? How can I structure my songs to maximize their impact? I worked toward those answers and I am still learning every day. I have heard of this referred to as the “perpetual student” mindset. There are a lot of highs and lows in this business and you need to be determined to get through the rough times. Being open minded musically and otherwise can help you grow as an artist.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

My parents played a lot of great records around the house when I was a kid: The Beatles, The Four Seasons, Clapton Unplugged to name a few. My dad listened to a lot of classical music as well. It had a huge impact on me. My mom also played the piano which was a core memory for me.
