Meet Philip Carrera

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Philip Carrera. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Philip below.

Philip, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I found my purpose by weaving together the different experiences I’ve had throughout my career. My time as a marketing director gave me strategic insight into how businesses grow and thrive in the digital space. Working in animation allowed me to develop my drawing skills and tap into a deeper creative side. While my experience as a copywriter for advertising, entertainment, and software companies, honed my ability to craft compelling messages to different audiences. These diverse skills have helped me venture into the world of book publishing under the Dizzy Bee Books brand, where I can combine creativity, storytelling, and business acumen to bring joy and relaxation to others.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I recently took my experience as a digital marketer, traditionally published author, and former animator to build Dizzy Bee Books, a brand focused on publishing coloring books for all ages. The popularity of coloring as a form of stress relief has grown in recent years, providing people a way to relax while expressing their creativity. Seeing this trend, I knew it was the perfect time to bring my creative skills and business acumen together. So This past summer, Dizzy Bee Books launched its first five titles on Amazon, with three more books scheduled for release in the coming weeks. Needless to say, with the holidays fast approaching, it’s an incredibly busy and exciting time for the brand.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
For anyone early in their journey toward creative entrepreneurship, there are three key qualities or skills that can make a significant difference: resilience, adaptability, and storytelling.

First, resilience is crucial because the entrepreneurial path is filled with challenges and setbacks. To develop resilience, you need to embrace failure as part of the process. Each mistake or rejection is an opportunity to learn and improve. Building a strong support system of mentors and fellow entrepreneurs can also help you stay grounded and motivated through tough times.

Second, adaptability is essential in a constantly changing creative landscape. The ability to pivot, learn new skills, and stay ahead of trends will keep your business fresh and competitive. To improve adaptability, make lifelong learning a priority. Take courses, attend workshops, and stay curious about new tools, techniques, or markets that can benefit your business.

Lastly, storytelling is a powerful tool for any creative entrepreneur. Whether you’re selling products, pitching ideas, or building a brand, you need to connect emotionally with your audience. To enhance your storytelling skills, practice conveying your own vision in a way that resonates deeply with people. It starts by knowing what resonates most with you: drama, humor, and problem solving are three things everyone can relate to.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
Creating the therapeutic coloring books for Dizzy Bee Books has been a deeply collaborative process, with contributions from my girlfriend, her sister, friends, and even her best friend’s niece. Each of them has offered invaluable insights that have shaped the concepts and content of the books. My girlfriend has an incredible eye for detail and has helped refine the designs, ensuring they’re both relaxing and enjoyable. Her sister and friends, being part of my target female audience, have shared ideas for themes and layouts that resonate with women seeking stress relief and creative outlets. And her best friend’s niece has provided fresh, youthful input, helping ensure the books also appeal to younger audiences, making them fun and engaging for kids. Their collective creativity, feedback, and support have truly brought these books to life, ensuring they offer something meaningful and therapeutic for everyone who buys one.
