We recently connected with Philip Coleman and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Philip, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My work ethic was built around a number of things. My upbringing, my mother and my grandparents, the obstacles I’ve had to overcome in every stage of life, and my attitude towards being successful and helping others meet their goals.
My mother is my rock and best friend. She has always been right by my side, even at my lowest she was my inspiration. She taught me love and how to stand on what you say. My grandmother taught me the qualities of an inner man; the how to on taking care of yourself even if no one is around to help. My grandfather instilled in me the qualities of the outer man, the working man, the “do it yourself” man, he taught me to always make sure, “you take care of your family before anything else.”
A key obstacle I’ve overcome is the start of this journey. With poor decisions made in the younger years of my life, the effects seemed to be stronger now than then. “Keep Going” is the motto, and I did just that; those things then, don’t affect me now. My attitude on how I approach anything competitive is “be the best.” And for me that means be the best “you” that you can be. You may not beat anyone on the charts, but if you are the very best of you, YOU won!
My work ethic is an appreciation of the values of hard work, determination, and perseverance my mother and grandparents instilled in me. By watching them, I was able to embrace a lifestyle of seizing opportunities and never accepting “No” for an answer. My dedication to the CTC Brand will not only reflect my work ethic, but the work ethic of my family.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about business?
CTC Trucking, LLC is a freight transportation company based out of Alabama. We provide transportation for all types of freight including; refrigerated and temperature sensitive goods, dry goods, as well as flat bed and intermodal. Developing this brand of services allows CTC Trucking, LLC to differentiate itself from competitors. Branching out into other industries, such as real estate, apparel, and entertainment; we are working to conduct business and be a trusted and reliable provider in multiple industries. This type of diversification is allowing the CTC Brand to grow financially along with enhancing market visibility. Along with logistics, I have created a platform where apparel can be purchased displaying inspirational and motivational quotes. Being able to touch someone in a positive way makes all the things I do special.
The website for CTC Trucking, LLC is now live, you can navigate through the website where you will find the motivational apparel I mentioned, as well as learning how CTC Trucking, LLC was built and also what it stands for. The website also highlights the services we provide and a form to contact us if needed.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
For one, I’m the type of person that is eager to learn. No one, in my opinion, knows every single thing it is to know about a particular business, but over time and experience you learn more and more. I found myself going into a career that I had no in depth knowledge about, however, I was prepared to learn. The learning process takes a willingness to ask the tough questions and listen to gain an understanding on what’s being taught; if you don’t know the answer to something, never be ‘too big” or ashamed to ask. I try to learn at least one thing about the transportation and logistics industry every day, the more you learn, the more you can do.
Throughout this journey, I have learned and fine tuned the quality of versatility. At one point, I was only focused on operating the truck, however, owning a transportation business, operating the truck is only a fraction of what it takes to make it successful. I began to use my background knowledge to expand my will house in the transportation and logistics industry. This led to things such as invoicing, managing payroll and expenses, truck maintenance, seeking contracts, and building relationships in the industry. Being versatile in whatever path is chosen will help extend your knowledge into that particular career path and possibly tap into similar careers that could deem profitable.
Lastly, being persistent is vital and has been my most impactful quality. Starting a new journey where the path and obstacles are unknown is a challenge in itself. Being persistent in your approach is a key action needed to overcome those setbacks and ultimately being successful. From the start of this journey I have had things knock me down and push me back, but “Keep Going” has been and will always be the attitude to get past whatever I am facing.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
God is the main source of everything that I have overcome as well as everything I have accomplished. He has blessed me with multiple gifts, given me numerous chances, and has always lifted me up when I have fallen. The skills and qualities I have developed over the years is only a gesture of how great he is. God has allowed me to soak up knowledge from my peers and use that knowledge to elevate my business.
God placed a strong support system in my lifel; family and close friends that are willing to come to my aide without hesitation. He blessed me with a strong mind; I’m not one that’s easily discouraged. An attitude that won’t allow me to quit; the determination to always get things done, and the courage to take chances. Those are a few of the key gifts he blessed me with.
Throughout my entire life, everything that God has taken me through and brought me out of, was preparation for who I am and where I am today. Without Him, there is no Philip Coleman. He is the reason for my success.
