Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Philip Fessler. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Philip, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Finding my purpose as a financial advisor was a journey of self-discovery. I started my career in finance in 1993 at a boutique firm, Kennedy Cabot, located in Beverly Hills. There, I discovered my calling and realized my passion for helping people make informed decisions about their finances. I continued growing my practice by working at various firms, including TD Ameritrade and Wells Fargo, within the role of a financial advisor. After almost three decades of gaining invaluable expertise in the wealth management field, I made a bold decision to become a partner at AIRE Advisors in 2021. At AIRE Advisors, we serve as fiduciaries, solely focused on our clients’ best interests, and advising them in every aspect of their financial lives. I feel privileged to be on this journey, making a positive impact in our clients’ lives while helping them achieve their financial goals.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
When it comes to guiding my clients’ financial journeys, I’m not just their advisor; I’m their partner in prosperity. I approach each relationship with empathy, compassion, and a deep desire to see clients achieve their life goals. In our work together, we’ll unlock their financial potential and uncover new opportunities for growth. And the best part? We’ll enjoy every step of the journey together, forming a partnership based on trust, respect, and a shared vision for their future. What I love most about my job is the long-term relationships with clients and their families. It’s incredibly rewarding to see them reach ever-greater heights of financial freedom, whether it’s buying a home, funding a child’s education, or retiring comfortably. What’s most exciting about my work is that it’s always evolving. As the financial landscape constantly changes, I’m always learning and adapting to provide unparalleled service to my clients and their families. One of the key differentiators at AIRE Advisors is our personalized approach, customizing our advice to our clients’ individual needs.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey
- Looking back, I think the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in my journey are:
- Resilience: being able to bounce back from setbacks and keep moving forward.
- Adaptability: having a plan and being able to act, not react, and pivot when necessary.
- Empathy: possessing the emotional intelligence to connect with others on a human level, understand their unique perspectives and circumstances, and build trust and rapport. This is vital for cultivating strong relationships and effective collaboration.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
As for advice for folks early in their journey:
- Don’t be afraid to fail. Failure is a crucial part of learning and growing.
- Pay it forward: seek out mentorship, but also be a mentor yourself. Share your knowledge and experience with others, and help them on their journey. It’s a win-win situation, and it builds a stronger and more supportive professional community.
- Stay curious and continuously learn. A growth mindset is key to long-term success.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My Aunt Pearl was a trailblazing financial advisor who broke barriers in a male-dominated field. Her strength, intelligence, and grit inspired me to follow in her footsteps, and she was my first mentor in this industry. Her guidance and support as I navigated the complexities of finance were invaluable, and her expertise and passion for the field inspired me. Thanks to her mentorship, I’ve grown professionally and developed a sense of purpose in helping others achieve their financial goals. I am eternally grateful to have had such a strong and positive role model that I was able to look up to and emulate.
