Meet Phillip Gazca

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Phillip Gazca. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Phillip below.

Hi Phillip, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

Finding purpose was a challenge for me during the early part of my career. Initially, I believed that purpose had to be tied to grand, altruistic endeavors like building wells in underdeveloped countries or funding orphanages. While these are incredibly worthy causes, they didn’t resonate with me personally.

The turning point came when I sat down with a mentor who suggested that I start by identifying my core values. Through a values elicitation exercise, I discovered that my values included independence, change, community, experiences, and connection. This process helped me understand what truly made me feel alive.

I then considered my “superpower,” which I realized was my ability to create deep and meaningful connections. Following this, I defined what success meant to me: doing what I want, with whom I want, when I want. As I synthesized these reflections, I encapsulated my purpose into one simple phrase: “Awesome people, doing awesome things, in awesome places.”

This phrase captures everything I believe in and strive for, and it has become the motto I live by every day. It reminds me to focus on what truly matters to me and to align my actions with my core values and strengths.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I have been in the real estate industry for almost 15 years, and my journey has been incredibly rewarding and diverse. While I’ve spent a significant portion of my career working with buyers and sellers, I’ve discovered a deep passion for developing others. This passion has led me to focus on coaching, teaching, and training not only real estate agents but also entrepreneurs and business owners from various industries.

Currently, my primary focus is on growing my team of agents at Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate – Gary Greene. What excites me most about this work is the opportunity to empower individuals to reach their full potential and achieve their professional goals. Seeing the growth and success of those I mentor is immensely fulfilling.

One aspect that makes my work special is the emphasis on creating a supportive and dynamic environment where agents can thrive. I believe in fostering a culture of continuous learning and development, where everyone feels valued and motivated to excel.

In addition to my coaching and team-building efforts, I’m also involved in several initiatives aimed at enhancing the real estate industry as a whole. This includes organizing workshops, seminars, and training sessions that provide valuable insights and skills to agents and business owners.

As for what’s new, we have several exciting projects in the pipeline. We’re expanding our training programs to include more comprehensive resources and tools that cater to the evolving needs of our agents. We’re also planning a series of events that will bring together industry leaders and professionals to share knowledge and network.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back on my journey, three qualities and skills have been particularly impactful: emotional intelligence (EQ), the ability to build relationships, and a commitment to continuous learning.

Emotional Intelligence (EQ): Understanding and managing my own emotions, as well as being attuned to the emotions of others, has been crucial in navigating the complexities of the business world. For those early in their journey, developing EQ is key. Practice self-awareness and reflection to better understand your emotional responses. Work on empathy by actively listening to others and considering their perspectives. Improving your EQ will enhance your communication skills and help you build stronger, more trusting relationships.

Relationship Building: My ability to build and maintain relationships has been a cornerstone of my success. Whether working with clients, colleagues, or industry peers, strong relationships are essential. For those starting, focus on genuinely connecting with others. Listen actively, show empathy, and strive to provide value in every interaction. Networking is not just about expanding your contact list but about creating meaningful and lasting connections.

Commitment to Continuous Learning: The business landscape is constantly evolving, and staying updated with the latest trends, technologies, and best practices is vital. Early in your journey, make a habit of investing in your education. Attend workshops, seek out mentors, read industry publications, and be open to learning from every experience. The more knowledge and skills you acquire, the more confident and capable you will become.

In summary, emotional intelligence will help you navigate interpersonal dynamics, relationship-building will create a solid network of support and opportunity, and continuous learning will keep you ahead of the curve. Embrace these qualities, and you’ll be well on your way to a successful and fulfilling journey.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

A lot of who I am today is because of my parents. While I don’t have kids of my own, my adult years have taught me that there is no easy way to be a parent. From my parents, I learned invaluable lessons that have shaped my character and approach to life.

One of the most impactful things they taught me was the importance of resilience. Through tough times, they demonstrated that it’s crucial to remain steadfast and resilient. This lesson has helped me navigate challenges with a strong and unwavering spirit.

Additionally, my parents instilled in me the importance of being unwavering in my beliefs and desires. They showed me the value of standing firm in my convictions, even when faced with adversity. This has been instrumental in guiding my personal and professional decisions.

Perhaps most importantly, they taught me the significance of sacrifice for the ones you love. Their selflessness and dedication to our family have shown me the profound impact of putting others before oneself. This lesson in love and sacrifice is something I carry with me every day.
