Meet Phillip Sturm

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Phillip Sturm. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Phillip below.

Hi Phillip, so excited to have you with us today and we are really interested in hearing your thoughts about how folks can develop their empathy? In our experience, most folks want to be empathic towards others, but in a world where we are often only surrounded by people who are very similar to us, it can sometimes be a challenge to develop empathy for others who might not be as similar to us. Any thoughts or advice?

I have had the opportunity to live and travel all around the world and the easiest way to develop your empathy is to do life with people. Have a meal, see someones favorite view point in their area, be real and open with your struggles and listen to others when they share their struggles. Life doesn’t have to be a me vs you mentality and in my experience, we are all at our best when we grow with one another.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Hey everyone, my name is Phillip and I’ve been a professional photographer since 2018 but enjoyed documenting my experiences for as long as I could hold a camera. My favorite part about photography is capturing the passion behind what I shoot. A large part of my work is couples celebrating a wedding or engagement and seeing the love, feeling the energy between individuals and then giving them a lifelong memory to have gives me life.

The flexibility of photography has also allowed me to have free time to travel and capture memories that I am eternally grateful for. Finding the balance of working your butt off to letting your inner explorer take over is a constant battle, but blessed for the opportunities that I’ve gotten.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1. Being genuine with people and actually caring about their lives.
2. Take time to try things to find what you enjoy doing and develop that skill.
3. Comparison is the thief of joy, practice gratitude for what you have.

If you’re early in your journey, my biggest advice is good things take time. Most of us will not be overnight successes, but by making progress in the right direction, wins will follow.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I am ALWAYS looking for people that are passionate and interested in growing as an artist and as a person. I believe that we all have talents creatively and pulling out which medium is right for you is the key to finding your passions. If you’re a uptempo individual and want to grab a coffee and talk travel stories, my instagram @phillipjsturm is a great way to connect.
