Meet Phyllis Caddell

We were lucky to catch up with Phyllis Caddell recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Phyllis, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

When I think about my work ethic, I realize it stems from my upbringing and my early experiences in both the creative and corporate worlds. Growing up in Los Angeles, I was surrounded by incredible influences. My mom was a legal negotiator while my dad worked as an entertainment manager and promoter. This blend of backgrounds gave me a front-row seat to different professional environments at an early age.

In terms of education, I dove deep into subjects that fascinated me. I earned a master’s in Organizational Communications, another master’s in Internet Marketing, and a bachelor’s in Public Relations. That learning shaped my approach to strategic communication and public relations, helping me cultivate a strong work ethic along the way.

Throughout my career, I’ve always aimed for excellence, whether I’m writing an article, ghostwriting, teaching, or consulting. My experiences have made me a seasoned publicist, a best-selling author, and an adjunct professor. I’ve also developed subject content for universities. Each step has reinforced my belief in continuous learning and professional growth, which I see as vital parts of a strong work ethic.

When I look at the bigger picture, my work ethic is a blend of family influences, personal passions, educational journeys, and an entrepreneurial spirit. It all comes together in a relentless drive to succeed in a competitive industry.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I believe that continuous learning and professional development are essential for success in the communications field. By constantly expanding my knowledge and honing my craft, I’m able to provide clients with innovative solutions and fresh insights that set PCPR Communications apart.

Recently, we’ve been focusing on developing digital workshops and resources that empower professionals in the communication field to enhance their skills and knowledge, making it easier to navigate the competitive landscape of PR.

At the end of the day, my work is a reflection of my holistic approach to public relations., blending a strong work ethic, creative instincts, and strategic thinking to create meaningful connections and drive impactful results for both PCPR Communications and our clients.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, I believe three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are:

Strong Work Ethic and Commitment to Excellence: My upbringing and education instilled a strong work ethic that has been essential for success in whatever I do. It has also made me strive for excellence.

Diverse Experiences and Knowledge: My background in both the creative and corporate worlds has provided me with a unique perspective and a broad skill set, enabling me to adapt and offer innovative solutions to my clients.

Passion for Storytelling and Strategic Thinking: My love for storytelling and strategic thinking has been crucial in crafting compelling narratives and building impactful relationships for my clients.

Advice: For those early in their journey, focus on developing a strong work ethic and seek out diverse experiences. Embrace every opportunity to learn and grow, as this foundation will set you up for success in the industry.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

The most significant thing my parents did for me was to encourage my exploration and curiosity while instilling a sense of responsibility and respect. As a naturally inquisitive kid, I was always asking questions and eager to learn. My parents recognized this and granted me the freedom to pursue my interests, while also setting boundaries and teaching me discipline.

They supported my independent thinking and creativity, but they ensured I understood the importance of following rules and being respectful. This balance between freedom and discipline shaped my character and contributed to my growth as a well-rounded individual.

I believe that having the freedom to explore while also learning the value of responsibility was essential to my development and ultimately proved beneficial in the long run.
