We recently connected with Pierce Ross and have shared our conversation below.
Pierce, so happy to have you with us today. You are such a creative person, but have you ever head any sort of creativity block along the way? If so, can you talk to us about how you overcame or beat it?
I overcome creativity blocks in a multitude of ways; My favorite would be travel, even a staycation in town. Travel fuels my creative being, in that you get away from the every day monotony of your life, immerse yourself in a different culture & environment. I really like to experience new activities in different cities that have nothing to do with my industry, I.E making pottery in Morocco. That experience fueled my creativity in such a special way; I was inspired by the people, the colors, the textures, the donkeys and the landscape Morocco had to offer.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
In working in the fashion I am extremely excited about the fashion industry’s shift towards sustainability and ethical practices. I believe that it’s important for the industry to be more environmentally conscious and socially responsible. If you want to check out how fast fashion and unsustainable practices affect us check out The True Cost on netflix. So its truly It’s inspiring to see fashion brands embracing sustainable materials and production methods, and also prioritizing fair labor practices.
I’m happy to be a part of this movement as this was one of the main components in starting Jaxon Pierce Bespoke. We started as a custom clothing brand in 2015 making one off items and using the scraps from each piece to design and produce other pieces at a discounted price. So to see other brands taking the initiative to contribute in making the fashion industry a more responsible and sustainable industry is amazing.
Currently we are partnering with a have been designing and producing small lot production apparel merchandise for small businesses and brands alike with out the outrageous minimum order quantities.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three skills I believe that helped me and stills helps me along the way are good ole fashion hard work, determination and an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. As well a bit of people pleasing, although it is looked at as a negative, you need some sort of it in owning a business especially in the creativity space, where your clients and how people perceive you are what sells and works in today’s society.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am always looking for new creatives and brands alike to collaborate with, big or small. I currently love collaborating with small local businesses in designing and producing there merch, they seem to really enjoy it as our designs are different from others that just heat tranfer a logo on a shirt. We produce different graphic techniques and apply it in new and innovative ways. Id also love to collaborate on a passion project with an artist to develop a one of a kind collection of one-off silk pocket squares and have a proceed of the profits benefitting a charity we both believe in.
This type of charitable collaboration is how I started Jaxon Pierce, we launched 2015 with a gala fashion show to honor my late friend Jax (where the Jaxon in Jaxon Pierce comes from) and raising awareness of cervical cancer. This type of creativity fuels my being in knowing the work I am creating is really actually going to benefit someone who is in need.
