Meet Pinchas Taylor

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Pinchas Taylor a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Pinchas, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
There are 4 introspective questions that I used to find my purpose, and you can ask yourself that will give you a clearer view of our unique purpose in this life. First question is what are your talents? These aren’t necessarily things you can enter a talent show for, but things that you have a knack for that set you apart. This can be things like being a good listener or a sense of humor. Secondly, ask yourself, what are my passions? What gets me fired up and excited? The things we are drawn to, along with our talents, play a role in finding our unique purpose. Thirdly, what are my unique experiences? Everyone has unique situations that they had which shape their ability and give them an edge over others. Sometimes we find a negative experience becoming channeled toward something positive, like a victim of abuse being drawn to help other victims of abuse and coupling their challenging experiences with their talents and passions to laser focus their ability to achieving their purpose. Lastly, what is my circle of influence? Life has brought you to a certain location, with certain people in your life, relations, and acquaintances. Utilize your current situation as a backdrop to help you along the way in establishing your purpose.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a rabbi in south Florida who also has a coaching / consulting business for people of all faith backgrounds. When I was 15 I decided I wanted to be a rabbi, after considering the fact that I enjoyed spirituality, people, teaching, and learning. My organization, the American Faith Coalition, provides an opportunity for people of all religious backgrounds to enhance their relationship with God, based on the wisdom of the Hebrew Bible and scriptural tradition. We do this through group study, individual coaching, and establishing faith communities around the United States. One of the things that makes us different is that we help people solve their questions of faith and living with purpose, regardless of what their inherited faith was. Many people find difficulty becoming a part of a community, which takes a toll on their overall sense of happiness and wellbeing. We are proud to be able to help with the sense of belonging and faith connection that so many are struggling with. We are very proud of our in-person chapters around the country, and proud to offer hands on assistance in growth to many diverse people around the world. One important point to always remember is that we are about relationship not religion.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Conceive. Believe. Toil.

First you need to let the creativity come up with a needed idea that you are talented at and passionate about. Then you must believe that this is something achievable. This may sound cliché but unless you believe in yourself and in what you’re doing, you will not achieve it. Simple as that. This belief may actually be the most important element in the equation. Then you need to work and work and work to make it happen, until you achieve.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
Usually we feel overwhelmed when we think that we have to complete everything all at once, right now. Things become much more manageable when you realize that you don’t need to finish everything, solve every problem, complete everything right this moment. You can let it sit, and complete things in small increments. This may sound like simple and obvious advice, but in my experience one of the greatest sources of anxiety in people’s daily lives stems from not navigating this properly.
